We are headed to paris in September, have an appartment in Latin Qtr near Notre Dame. Plan on a day trip to Normandy, any local cafes or brassieres(sp?) that are not to be missed?

I was never really comfortable in France because of the language difference. I should have learned at least a few french words and phrases. A book of words and phrases would have been very smart. Getting directions, and eating in resturants was difficult for me. I was told by one tour guide that by speaking slowly more of the locals could understand my english.
