OK, here is some Le Havre info. Le Havre is located on the water in France!!! LOL
OK, here is a little more. Le Havre is located at the inlet of the Seine River and is across from the town of Honfleur. As you head west past Honfleur you are about an hour and a half from the D-day beaches of Normandy and the memorial located in Colleville-sur-Mer (Omaha beach). There are several private tour groups that offer tours of the area. Some will do it from Le Havre and others offer local guides. There are car rental agencies available in Le Havre and this might be one option if we all do this together. If doing a car, it gives more flexibilty time wise and you can add some things along the way. Some of those options would be to continue on another hour S.W. from the memorial to visit the world famous Mont St. Michel Abbey or a stop in the picturesque town of Honfleur on your way.
Other options for Le Havre are to head down to Rouen and Giverny along the Seine, or take a whirlwind tour of all the sights of Paris. Possibly spend the day at Versailles. Just too little time and soooo much to see.
Now we would be in port from 7am until 10pm. So, if we figure off the ship about 8am after the ship clears and we have to be back on by 9pm, that gives us about 13 hours.
There is no train running to Normandy, but there is one to Paris and it takes 2 hours. Cost is about 34 Euros per person round trip (about $42). The first non stop train (that we could actually make) would leave at 10:12 am. The last train (that we dare catch) from Paris departs at 6:40pm.
Cost for a rental car for the day is about $100.
What Diana and I do here will depend a lot on whether we do Paris and that Seine River Cruise next year or not.
