Looks like the Carnival Fascination will continue home porting at Jacksonville for almost two more years.

CCL and JaxPort have signed a lease giving Carnival the right to use JaxPort's cruise terminal and riverfront berth through May 31, 2011

The Cruise Terminal in question is a termporary facility, which is slated to be demolished to make way for a new cargo terminal in a couple of years.

Wrangling has been going on to build a new Cruise Terminal East (oceanward) of the Dames Point Bridge. eing east of the bridge (and also some power lines) would mean that larger ships, which cannot pass under the bridge, could be accomodated. A site has been identified at Mayoirt, but so far, it has not been possible to reach an agreement about that site.

With the mayoral race looming, this COULD becomre an election issue.
