a high surf advisory remains in effect for the coastal waters of
east central florida through wednesday morning. Northeast to east
winds are expected to increase further over coastal sections of
east central florida...as well as the adjacent atlantic tonight.
These winds will continue to generate rough...pounding surf and
large breaking waves that will affect the east central florida
beaches into wednesday morning.
In addition...minor beach erosion may occur through the next high
tide cycle...which will occur between 4:00 am and 5:00 am.
Present indications are that the high surf advisory will need to
be extended through much of wednesday.

Meanwhile, lifeguards at Daytona Beach had to rescue at least five people Saturday from dangerous rip currents and waves as high as 10 feet, with 12-foot faces.
Officials warned beachgoers to stay out of the surf this weekend, though they did say they expected waves to subside Sunday.
ORLANDO -- Tropical Storm Danny continues to have a tough time holding itself together and gaining strength.
However, the impact in Central Florida will continue to be the churned up seas and rip current threat for the coastal waters.
Brevard beaches are feeling the effect of Ida. The surf is high and roough, and there is an abnormally high risk of dangerous rip currents and undertowes.
Add to that the fact that, because it is off season, there is only a skeleton crew of lifeguards on duty... some five lifeguards for many,, many miles of beaches.
Going into the surf at Brevard County beaches right now is NOT advised AT ALL.

The national weather service in melbourne has issued a high surf
advisory...which is in effect until 4 am est sunday.
A low pressure system off the carolinas will move southeast through
tonight and send large swells into the east central florida
coastal waters. Moderate to large swells up to around 6 feet are
expected to impact the east central florida beaches today.
The large breaking waves will likely produce additional beach
erosion around the time of high tide...which will occur between 5
am and 6 am this morning and 5 and 6 pm this evening. Above normal
tide levels of 1.5 to 2 feet can be expected.
The long period swells will also contribute to a high risk of strong and dangerous rip currents.
children should not wade into the surf due to the strong breaking waves expected. The high surf can make you susceptible to being caught in a rip current.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area...producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion especially near high tide.
