Unhappy Family Divided into 2 Cabins

As a family of 5, it's very hard to find a ship that will let us stay in the same cabin. So on our upcoming trip, we had to book 2 adjacent (but not adjoining) cabins. I'm a bit uneasy about this, no a LOT uneasy, actually. I wouldn't feel this way if we had connecting cabins, with an open door between us, but I'm really having problems being in 2 completely separate rooms, even though we're right next door to each other.

I'm wondering what others have experienced in this situation?

We have sailed twice this way, neither time were they connecting. We were also a party of 5. One time they were next door, the other time we were one door apart. Piece of cake. No big deal. We had a great cruise.

Our kids loved the bunk beds!

    Susan, what are the ages???
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

If you get too worried, each one of you could sleep in a cabin with kids.

OK, you're gonna think I'm being silly ... but I have a 17 yo DD, and 14 yo DD/DS (twins). They're good kids, no problems, so I really have no reason to "worry," and I can't really put my finger on why I'm uneasy. DH just rolls his eyes ... We've talked about splitting up boys in one cabin, and girls in the other, and we may yet do that.

Upon reflection, I'm probably just experiencing separation anxiety. DD #1 is heading off to college in June, and I had this image of our last family fling before she goes away. We don't spend much time together during the cruise ... really only for dinner & going ashore, so realistically, we're only in the cabin all at the same time when we're sleeping. In that light, I guess it doesn't make much difference.

Thanks for your encouragement, Beth ... it helps a lot!

I don't think you are silly at all!! I am assuming one parent had to book each room, so if necessary you could push the button and each take a cabin if necessary when on board!! I have grown kids, but take grandchildren 16 & 17, and I love and trust them, but never totally, and I never trust other passengers!!

If I ever sail with my family, I am hoping that we can be divided up amongst two ships.

There are three kids in my family and we always traveled in separate rooms from the parents. Once we were actually on another deck. That was fun!!

Susan...if you have balcony rooms, you will be able to open up the partition between them and it's almost like having connecting rooms....only better! (a bit more privacy!)
