But, they should be prepared for it. I have heard that in some locations there are actual classes where the kids can learn what to expect and how they are expected to behave.

It is all in the training. Don't expect them to know what to do if they have never been exposed to something.

I have heard of etiquette classes for young men and women. Might be worth looking into if someone has a child old enough to learn from them.

It probably wouldn't hurt to take most young kids to the MDR as long as they're in the mood. Maybe warn your waitstaff and fellow diners (if at an assigned table) that if you're not there by five minutes after the assigned time, just assume you're eating in the buffet instead. For many children, they may actually surprise you and be so mesmerized by the setting and the attention they'll be getting from the waitstaff, they are little angels. If they start fussing, one parent should remove them from the room -- but that should be standard no matter where you are.

I think the dispostion of the child has to be taken into account. Grandson number 1 behaves very well and has the natural patience to sit through a dinner. Grandson number 2, well what can I say except that he has a mind of his own. Yeah, that's the nice way of saying he is pretty stubborn and if he gets board, he will find trouble to get into. Good thing he is sooooooooooooo cute.

Yes .... Children normally attend these when thay are around 13. Often they are a part of dance lessons. The boys may gripe but they don't really mind going. They want to learn how to dance with girls at that age ... and not embarrass themselves.

Lulu, there was nothing like that when I was growing up! Or, at least none that I was aware of.
