Pregnancy guidelines.

Has there recently been a change in travelling whilst you are pregnant?

I am a little confused whether is is 24 weeks or 28 weeks?

Does anyone know the general rule for this.

Laura

It could differ by cruiseline but this is from RC

What is Royal Caribbean's policy on cruising while pregnant? - Royal Caribbean International Q: What is Royal Caribbean's policy on cruising while pregnant? A: Royal Caribbean International cannot accept guests who will have entered their 24th week of pregnancy by the beginning of, or at any time during the cruise or cruisetour. A physician's "Fit to Travel" note is required prior to sailing, stating how far along (in weeks) your pregnancy will be at the beginning of the cruise and confirming that you are in good health and not experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.

I would imagine that most cruise lines would be the same guidelines, thanks for the reply Sue. 24 weeks doesn't seem that far along though does it? I am expecting twins (scary I know), so I would imagine that is a higher risk for them aswell.

Well it is about 6 months and I think they are afraid of early delivery, misdated due date, and in the case of an early delivery there is no way they are equiped for an early birth, if any birth at all. It would be a risk for your twins as well as you. I am a nurse and worked in labor and delivery and hemmoraging at birth is quite common. In a hospital setting it can be controlled, but on a ship that would be very bad. Congratulations on the twins WOO HOO

It does vary slightly by cruiselines as Sue has stated, but the first one to ask is your OB-GYN for when his cut-off is for your specific case. He may even be more conservative than the cruiselines.

It seems the cruiselines are being more wary when it comes to pregnancies. I don't remember what the cut off was when I went on my preggers cruise (I was about 4-1/2 months along at that point). I did talk to my OB-GYN who was very positive about my plans as I didn't have a problem pregnancy (which was surprising for me as I was a much older mother-to-be than most of his patients). Turns out, he is a big fan of going on cruises and we usually discuss our latest cruises (more his lately than mine) at my annual exam. I didn't take any letter from him as it wasn't required at that time (1997).

Thanks for the advice guys, I think it is safest for everyone to stay home for the time being, I am not sure I have the energy to do much to be honest

Maybe when the twins are born I can start planning their first cruise, although I am not sure my energy levels will have grown much
