How many of you are getting passports or the new passport card for your children? I am still considering this option. I know I can still use the birth certificate and another piece of ID, but I just can't decide.

Passport cards are really for the border states to move easier back and forth, they will not work to fly back into the states, a pssport is good for both!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
This may also be important!!
Coast Guard and Immigration and Naturalization Service regulations require that cruise passengers 16 or older show a passport or birth certificate (original or certified copy) PLUS a photo ID issued by a federal, state or local government agency. Voter registration and Social Security cards are no longer accepted as proof of citizenship. Most foreigners living and working in the United States are required to have an Alien Registration Card (the so-called green card), which serves as proof of legal residence.

I recommed getting passports...
Thanks to both Dolores and Sue for their ultimate knowledge. I was leaning toward passports anyway...but you're right, better safe than sorry!! I still have time and can do them one at a time if I have too.
When we were taking our girl on her first flight for our Caribbean cruise, we got her a passport. She was three then and we felt more comfortable having a better ID than the birth certificate as it has a photo. Since then, we have renewed her passport once. We don't regret spending the money for the piece of mind.
For her first cruise, we would have been not that far away to take ground transportation back home if somehow we'd missed the ship (of course that time we stayed right on the pier when we left the ship in Ensenada).
