Question At what age do you feel your children should be before they have their own cabin?

We did this for ours when the older was a senior in high school.

Now, we have grandchildren and things have changed.

Wondering what you folks think?

I sail with my kids and grandkids, if they sail with me they would have to be an adult!! Kids may be responsible at home, but on a ship with "new friends" they can become stupid. If I am responsible for bringing them, they do it my way!! But If the parents are on board it is their responsibility, but I don't put up with crap on my cruise and they are with me, If I catch them doing something stupid the $#&% hits the fan, but they are always forwarned and agree!! No problems yet!!

My Signature Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Personally I agree with the cruiselines that minors need to be in a cabin with a parent or other adult who will be responsible for the minor.

Mine was 6, but it was an adjoining cabin. Her balcony had me worried, though.

I won't put an age on it, but if they are old enough to enjoy a cruise put 'em in the adjoining cabin

I think adjoining cabins are perfect for young children traveling with their parents---provided the adjoining door is open at all times.

It gives you a second bathroom, 2 TVs, more storage space and space for the kids to enjoy their cabin time without being underfoot.

We were on the Dawn this year and booked an AB Penthouse. Our kids are 13 and 9. This was a great cabin and had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living/dining room, balcony, and bulter/concierge service. The space was ideal for us and we could not have had a better cruise.

In August we are going on the NCL Spirit and because this ship does not have suites for 4 (3 max), we needed to book a suite and an adjoining balcony cabin. The balcony cabin connects to the living room of the suite and we will be keeping the door open. The set up on the Dawn is better but I think that this will work out ok.

While not on NCL, we were with friends on a Celebrity cruise who had the same set-up (extra balcony cabin opened into the livingroom of their suite) and it worked out GREAT for them.

If you open both of the connecting doors and then do the lock thingy, they can be" pulled to" for dressing privacy without accidently being totally closed and locked.

This is good to know, thank you. This will work great.

The suite has a separate bedroom and separate master bathroom that is huge and has a jacuzzi! There are also pocket doors that separate the living room/dining area from the bedroom in the suite.

on the first Cruise we went on, my girls were 12, 11, and 8. We couldnt afford to get a SUITE, and we did not want to pay for 2 cabins, (5 of us in 1 cabin would not have been fun) So we got 2 interior cabins side by side(Ecstasy at that time did not have connecting rooms). This past summer the girls were 15,14, 10. We had an interior for them, and a balcony accross the Hall....

This has worked out great for us, and cheaper than getting them a balcony (scares the Heck out of me, to have kids have one) adjoining ours, and cheaper than a Suite.

I have to admit that I was really concerned that we had a balcony in our suite. I was worried that our kids (age 12 and 9) may enjoy leaning over the railing. They actually had no interest being near the railing and it was higher that I thought it was going to be.

The door was much hard to open and there is also a child lock. My wife and kids could not figure out how to open the door.

I had to open and close it for all of them. Even when we were in the same cabin a second time 2 months later, no one could work the door.
