Thanks for posting these. Hopefully anyone's who may think their kids won't participate in the program can see that there's plenty to do onboard.

Glad to do it. It's a small pay-back for all of the info and kindness I have found here. My boys (9 and 11) didn't participate a lot, but they liked being able to pick and choose from the list. The scavenger hunts were a HUGE hit (find someone from Indonesia, find someone who can say the alphabet backwards, etc) and the Halloween night was great fun for all of us. We will probably book a fall break cruise again just for that.![]()

I remember when some kids approached us on one of our first few cruises. We tried to help them out.
On our last cruise, on the Island Princess, we were sitting in the buffet having lunch, when we heard a familiar voice. Our girl, paired with one of the fun zone counselors because she wasn't allowed to sign herself out, was playing the scavenger hunt. All she had left at that point was "plays chess," "hates pineapple," and "wears dentures." So hubby signed for "plays chess." I had to skip on the other two.

Thanks for the posts. It looks like they will really enjoy it. Since our daughters (12 and 13) are at that awkward stage of not really kids and not really teenagers, we weren't sure where they would find their niche.
We are traveling with another family that has a son that is 10. Do you think they will let my 12 year old be in the younger group with him? They would rather be together and she would fit in with the younger kids just fine.
I also saw that they have dinners for the kids in the kids club. Do lots of kids do that instead of eat with the parents in the dining room? I thought dinner would be a chance to catch up on what everyone did during the day, especially if the kids are doing separate activities.
thanks for you help

Usually older kids (if not that much older) can go down a group, just not the other way around for obvious reasons.
Carnival and Princess too have kids' dinners, usually once or twice during the cruise, in the casual buffet. What happens is that an area will be closed off for a private party (on Princess, one side of the Horizon Court is shut down). You bring the kids to the buffet at the indicated time and sign them in. Afterwards, the counselors will escort the kids to the kids' area to start the evening activities. My girl has always enjoyed dining with her new friends.
I'm guessing that that's what you're talking about. It's not a nightly event. The rest of the time the kids will be dining with their parents.
As far as I can remember, food is not allowed in the actual rooms used for the kids' program. If they're doing an activity such as cookie decorating, it's in the buffet.

my kids really liked Camp Carnival a few years ago when we were on the Fantasy. sara was old enough to check herself out- and now Seth will be. Seth still likes to do activities- I'm not sure how much Sara will do...being a young freshman, she feels awkward joining in some activities...She did enjoy the scavenger hunts and late night parties.
Have fun!
