    Teenagers on ships~several questions

I have posted on the Carnival thread here but thought I would throw these question on this forum since they are more general. We are considering doing a small ship and I am not sure if they will have enough fun. I have found when we sailed on the Celebration during the school year not many children were on the ship.

    1. Does your teenager have the run of the ship?
    2. Do they have a curfew?
    3. Do they join the teen program?
    4. On smaller ships are their lots of children?

It has been a number of years since we took our DD on a cruise as a teenager. (1985)

Overall there we not as many teens cruising at that time.

She did have the run of the ship.
    No curfew
She did join the teen group
There were quite a few teens on that trip.

    jsme,

1.Does your teenager have the run of the ship?

If the parents allow them. I have see them all, good bad and completely rude! I allow my children to explore the ship on their own but we have set rules on times we meet during the entire cruise.

    2. Do they have a curfew?

It still depends on the parents! Some parents allow their children out all times of the night. All of my children have a curfew.

    3. Do they join the teen program?

My 10 year old does all the time but it depends with the older teenagers. The older teenagers always finds children their ages and they hang out during the entire cruise.

    4. On smaller ships are their lots of children?

This depends on the sailing time. If you go in the spring & summer, Yes there are lots of children compared to fall and winter.

On our last cruise we allowed the children to run about a lot but we kind of knew where they were at all time. They also had a curfew but that was negotible as well if they had a event or movie they wanted to see we would discuss that and then agree on another time.

I agree the kids that run the ship totally can be extremely rude at times. I have witness more than I care to.

On the Disney ships they always joined the kids program but on the Freedom they had no desire to do so.

I guess I just curious if they will have fun on a smaller ship. I do not want to waste my money if I think they will not have fun.
