Thread: "Affordable Family Travel" in trouble

Just heard on the local news that an agency known as Affordable Family Travel, operated by a Heidi Bies (sp?), is in legal trouble.
Apparently, many people who booked cruises through this company, headdquartered in Daytona, were taken advantage of. Their deposits were taken by this agency, but no cabins were ever actually booked for them by the agency.

Hope no one here had used this person for their TA.

If so, you might want to do some heavy-duty follow-up!

You know Canary this probably happens more than we realize.......thanks for posting this.....hopefully no one here is using them. Let's hope anyway.

I hope not, but when I heard it on TV, I thought it merited a post. . . I hate to see folks get taken.

We had some friends in Iowa that "GOT" a cruise when they bought a car........yeah right....ended up going to Florida and the travel agent closed up shop, and never booked their cruise..........I think this happens more than we realize.

How sad.

Well, it goes right back to folks should just be nice to each other and be honest.

Oh, that doesn't sound good. I haven'theard of this company...But geesh I would think (being in a "family") that saving up for a vacation is usually a tough thing...then to have the TA close up shop...not good at all.

The owner has apparently been arrested.

I'm sure the owner will get what is coming to them.........but the money is probably lost forever.........

Doesn't it just tick you off when you hear of a hard working family who have saved for a couple years just to afford a vacation and then someone who doesn't give a darn, rips them off. Someone who has probaby done this several or many times before and has no qualms about doing this to people. It's terrible, I agree with Canarymoon, we should treat people with kindness,empathy and honesty and how we would like to be treated. It's a shame, but there are a lot of crooks in the world that have nothing better to do than to sit around and think about how they can scam someone.
