    Hi Neal,

I like to see the historical and cultural parts of a town and enjoy the local food. I am NOT a beach person or zip line person - I want to enjoy the ambience of the town. To quote that famous line . . . “to boldly go to where no man has gone before”

We were just there, however I cant's help you with the city as we stayed in the port area. I can only go boldly where the boss lady wants me to take her!

From what I saw of Jamaica and from what everyone was saying (including our guide who should be putting everything about the island in the most positive of lights), I would limit myself to organized tours. There is a very nice one from what I could see of it that took you around the cultural parts of the city in an open air trolley. That is what we plan on doing next time we get to Falmouth. We were made a bit leery of the place by everything we saw outside the gates (it is a true compound with ID checks coming and going). Nothing that was obviously dangerous, but lots of dumpy looking buildings selling every single type of touristy kotchski that you could imagine. This went on for about three blocks before emptying out into more normal areas of the city.

I agree with Neil; the town is rough. We are normally adventurous when it comes to cultural sightseeing, but after researching here, we felt like there just wasn't anything in that realm worth our while. We ended up at an all-inclusive beach, and had a great time.
