Galapagos Explorer II Resumes Service

The Galapagos Explorer II resumed service on Baltra Island on Nov. 7 following its annual maintenance period. As part of a five-year transformation master plan, the restaurant, coffee station and the Jacuzzi bar were remodeled this year. The restaurant was decorated with hand-painted images by a renowned local artist. The restaurant walls received a classic wood finish and the portholes were replaced with picture windows. The wall panels of the coffee station and Jacuzzi bar were replaced with more modern wood panels. Balconies were added to eight premium category cabins, bringing the total number of balcony cabins to 24. This is the largest amount of balcony suites available on any vessel serving the Galapagos. The all-suite vessel visits up to 10 islands in the Galapagos archipelago on a typical seven-night cruise. For more information, call 800-613-6026 or visit Canodros S. A. – Ecuador & Galapagos Tours: Unforgettable experiences with responsability (http://www.canodros.com).

Condé Nast Traveler listed Aqua Expeditions among 26 travel and tourism companies that it recognizes as "World Savers." The list honored companies that, according to the magazine, are "turning travel's enormous potential to improve the planet into reality." Nominations were made for excellence in the areas of education, poverty, wildlife, preservation, and health. Aqua Expeditions, however, was honored to find itself on the "doing it all" list, reflecting its efforts in every one of the above categories. "The day we decided to operate the M/V Aqua in a fragile nature reserve, we knew that the social component of our programs would be just as important as the wildlife component," said Francesco Galli-Zugaro, founder and CEO of Aqua Expeditions. "From day one, our journeys into Amazonia -- including the remote Pacaya Samiria Reserve -- have involved active participation with some 14 native river communities."

Aqua Expeditions is dedicated to delivering a world-class Amazon experience, in an environment of comfort and safety. Its team onboard the Aqua equals that of the finest small-ship operators, anywhere in the world. Management has a total commitment to excellence. Aqua Expeditions offers trips to the Peruvian Amazon to discriminating, adventurous travelers who want to explore the more remote and pristine areas of the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve in the upper Amazon River and its tributaries. Aqua, the flagship vessel, is 140 feet long with 12 spacious and luxurious guest suites. All of the suites are 230 to 240 square feet with large outward-facing picture windows and en-suite sitting areas. For more information, visit Luxury Cruise, Peru, Amazon River Cruise; Luxury Travel Vacations (http://www.aquaexpeditions.com).

A rare opportunity to visit one of our planet's most important biodiversity regions

Orion's expeditions to remote and rarely visited Sub-Antarctic islands

The Australian and New Zealand Sub-Antarctic Islands, regarded by UNESCO as one of the worlds' precious regions of unique biodiversity, will be visited by the luxury expedition cruise ship Orion in December 2009 and again in 2010.

Recognised for their volcanic and glacial geological formations and extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna this area has the highest diversity and abundance of seabirds found anywhere in the world. Over half of the world's seabirds, some of which exist nowhere else, call this region home.

Joining Orion's specialist Expedition Team to assist guests maximise their understanding of the important biodiversity of this region will be a number of guest lecturers including British zoologist and naturalist Dr John Sparks; threatened species ecologist with Birds Australia, Glenn Emke, and Neville Peat, who wrote the 1998 World Heritage Area nomination for the New Zealand Sub Antarctic islands.

With convenient embarkation in Bluff (Invercargill, New Zealand) or Hobart, Orion will visit Australia's wildlife sanctuary at Macquarie Island, plus Campbell, Stewart, Snares and Auckland islands as well as spending time exploring New Zealand's beautiful Fjordlands, including Milford Sound with the world's tallest sea cliffs.

These expeditions, with departures in December 2009 and 2010, particularly suit nature lovers and keen wildlife photographers as well as those with a spirit of adventure interested to visit places of outstanding importance yet rarely seen.

American Safari Cruises plans expedition line

A sister cruise line to American Safari Cruises, InnerSea Discoveries (http://www.innerseadiscoveries.com/), will be less expensive and focused on adventures at sea.
InnerSea Discoveries and American Safari Cruises are headed by CEO Dan Blanchard, who was CEO of American Safari Cruises from 2001 to October 2008.
When he bought the American Safari Cruises brand in February, Blanchard said the company planned to add more brands to its portfolio. InnerSea is the first of those brands.
Slated to debut in 2011, the new brand will take adventure travelers on wildlife-centric itineraries through Alaska’s Inside Passage.
InnerSea has acquired two ships from the defunct Glacier Bay Cruiseline to launch the brand.
The 80-passenger Wilderness Discoverer and 66-passenger Wilderness Adventurer are currently out of commission. The ships will undergo an extensive renovation before entering service for InnerSea but will keep their names, said Tim Jacox, InnerSea’s executive vice president of sales and marketing.
InnerSea will be substantially less expensive than American Safari Cruises, which charges $850 to $1,500 per passenger, per day. InnerSea’s cruises will start at around $300 per passenger, per day, but items such as alcoholic beverages and tips will be extra, Jacox said.
The ships will offer seven-day trips between Ketchikan and Juneau, but the ships won’t stop in ports along the way, instead spending the journey sailing through fjords, around glaciers and through the islands and coastal cruising areas of Southeast Alaska.
The itineraries will take passengers on Zodiacs to explore glaciers and wildlife up close, and will make landings for guided hikes through remote areas.
The ships will carry their own fully equipped fishing boats, one of several excursions guests can take.
