Hi! I'm looking at the EOS for April, 2009. There is a hump cabin available. Has anyone stayed in one? Are the balconies bigger? They look like the would be. Any info. will be appreciated.

A hump cabin? Wow I am so not into the lingo huh...
I will be on Explorer of the Seas in Sept. I will tell you about the ship and see what kind of info I can grab to be scanned...
I will be in the smaller balcony room, ill snap a few pics so you can have an idea.
The hump cabins on the Voyager class ships are not as distinctive as they are on the Radiance class. The hump is not as pronounced. The balconies are about the same size as the non-hump cabins. Depending on where you are on the hump the view can be a bit different. The big benefit is location. Being close to the main elevators, it is easy to get to anywhere on the ship.

Hhahaha Sk8er, there is a humped out portion of the ship near the center. On the deck diagrams it appears that the balconies on the hump section may be a tad bit larger. I've heard that these are good cabins. Just wondering if anyone here has stayed in one. We will look forward to your pictures and report.

Thanks Blizzard! I just got off a cruise and I'm looking for another one, hahaha. Aren't we all? I need to find a way to convince hubby it's in our best interest to plan ahead, way ahead!!
We were near the aft on the Crown Princess and I think doing all that walking helped keep the weight gain down, haha. I don't mind walking unless it's formal night and I'm wearing uncomfortable shoes but then I just took them off and walked bare foot once I got off the elevator on the room level.

We will be on the EOS April 08. We have a JS more forward than I would like but, what the heck....we will still be at sea!
We had a hump cabin on deck 10 on the AOS last year, 1310....the first hump cabin from forward (heading aft) starboard side. I didn't care for that balcony. It was only a tad bigger than our friend's regular balcony cabin on deck 6 and our's was a JS that should have been noticably larger.
I did love the location, very close to the elevators and midship. Very quiet I might add. Surprisingly we didn't have any problem with noise being so close to the elevators. The OS cat cabins were next to us to the right facing the door (2 of them) then one GS then the elevators.
Since we were not directly mid hump the cabins to the right of us jutted out further than us. (remember, we were at the beginning of the curve outward) so we really couldn't see toward the aft of the ship but had a great view forward and straight out.
I must say that the location was really quiet surprisingly, the elevators were close so I thought we would have more noise from the "people traffic". The Windjammer Cafe and the pools were only one deck above us and we had no problems with noise from there either.
This was the view forward from our balcony. Sorry I don't have a better picture of the balcony to show you. Our "real" camera was stolen at the airport in San Juan as we were going thru security to fly home. Over 300 pictures were lost that were still in the camera. I had the "old" digital with me and that's where these pics came from. All the good pictures were lost with the good camera. Now I have multiple memory cards with me and my laptop....download as I go. I also take the memory cards out of the camera while doing the traveling to and from and carry them on my person. Lessons learned the hard way.

Assuming I figured out this "hump" lingo out, my room will not be near that. I am a few steps away from the elevators up front. The diagrams I have of the ship show two sets of elevators, one up front, and one near this "hump" in the rear of the ship... I can see why the balcony might be a touch larger, for the curve. But I am guessing you can see all the way up and down the ship from these humps...
Booking early and late are good. Booking late is a gamble, if there are alot of rooms available in the type your looking for you will find a deal...But, I am sure everyone here knows more tricks then me to find a sweet deal..
Thing I liked about Royal and booking with them directly (same price as all the discount sites so why not...) is that you can pay what you can when you can... I am living rent free at the moment so I just paid in full, but it only wanted like 100 deposit...
Thanks everyone! Lynn, be sure and let me know all about the ship when you get back. That's a shame about you losing your pictures. I never thought about taking the memory chip out of the camera. That's a great idea.
I let the hump cabin go! I contacted my new TA and she held an aft cabin for us. It's 8690 which is a corner cabin, port side. I found pictures on the net and the deck looks huge. Huge for a regular balcony cabin that is. I'm hoping a different corner aft cabin that I have my eye on opens up between now and then but in the meantime I've got a pretty good one. It's a 12 day cruise and we love our balcony so I wanted to get the biggest one I could get without paying a fortune for it. I couldn't believe that 21 months in advance there were so few aft cabins to choose from. Sheesh! I guess cruisers really do like to plan in advance.
Here's a couple of pictures of that balcony. I think these were from the AOS though. The only difference, I'm told is on the EOS the door from the room is full glass.
This one show how deep it is. There are actually 2 loungers on there along with the 2 regular chairs and a table. I have no idea who this woman is. I stole the picture off webshots, LOL.

Very nice pics... I have always wondered what the corners looked like!

You can never go wrong with an aft cabin. It does inlcude a walk from the elevators but it is also less windy back there and the balconies tend to be larger. One extra perk is that you can see what the ship is passing on both sides of the ship, very helpful when there is scenary to take in.
We had JS 1100 on the Serenade to Alaska and it was wonderful. We also had it booked for Hawaii next year but decided to go with an E1 for us and an inside for the kids. They are getting too big for the four of us to be comfortable in one room, even a JS.
