Explorer of the Seas Itinerary change

Just received a call from RCCL since we have many clients sailing on the 9 night cruises from Bayonne to the Caribbean this summer.

Due to a mechanical issues all sailings between 5/14/09 and Oct 2009 will have a revised itinerary.

    Bermuda is not effected
St Maarten instead of noon to 9pm it is now 2pm-10pm
St Thomas instead of 8am-6pm, it is now 8am-5pm
San Juan instead of 7am-2pm, now arrives in port the evening before at 10pm and departs the next morning at 1130am.

A mechanical issue that will last that long? Weird.

Clients on the ship in February had a similar issue but the ones in March were fine.

Who knows- probably don't want to pull the ship out of service to repair whatever issue it might be until low season.

we just got back april 17 from a 12 nighter on the explorer of the seas to the southern caribbean. The ship seem to be fine except for the day before we got back into bayonne. We hit some rough seas off the coast of virginia. The ship was rocking. I've been on worse. Our san juan itenerary was changed a bit. But we still got into port ahead of time. We ended up leaving barbados at 4 o'clock instead of 5. Other than that it was a great trip.

The mechanical issue is a damaged prop that can't get repaired until they can get the ship dry-docked - January 2010 is what I have heard.

Our upcoming cruise was affected and our canopy tour excursion in Puerto Rico was cancelled as the ship leaves San Juan port so early in the morning - saved $500 but disappointed as this was our only planned excursion. Don't know why they even bother docking - in @ 10 pm and out by 11:30 am. Hate that we are leaving St. Thomas an hour earlier, too, but what can you do... just shorter time in St. John.

Interesting to note though - when I called RC a month ago and specifically asked if there would be an itinerary change due to the prop damage, they assured me that no, highly unlikely. At least they did not wait until we boarded. ;-)

we have a cruise booked for feb 26 2010. It was originally booked for april 2010 but rc canceled that sailing. We were told the ship wasn't going to sail after march 2010. They said the ship was being pulled. If its pulled in january i wonder if it will affect our feb sailing. I hope not. We have a royal family suite booked.

maybe the dry docking is to occur in March and not January as I was originally told... either way, I am sure that it will be a wonderful cruise. Our family is looking forward to our 10 days on this ship!

We are sailing on Explorer 6/25/09. As of last night the itinerary has changed back to original itinerary. We got the hour back in St Thomas, and now get into San Juan at 7 AM & depart at 2 PM. I'm sure it will prpbably change again.

We are sailing 6/11/09 on EOS and the itinerary changed back to the original as well - thankfully. Our TA said that MANY people complained about getting into San Juan at 10 pm and departing at 11am next morning.

I am glad to get the extra hour in St. Thomas to spend at St. John!
