Do you have any experience with GSM phone in Europe?

I purchased this one for my trip to Europe this year.

I got the $49. one because it will work in all the countries I am going to.
I have heard that some cell phones work over there, but I don't think my carrier (Altell) does. I figured it was a small amount to pay for the convenience of trying to contact my hotel or a taxi, etc.
Friends around the world, isnt the web great!

Regent Navigator 11/15/07 (I won it)
    HAL Veendam 12/16/07 from Tampa
    37 cruises and counting

My friend got one of these so she could keep in contact with her family. She loved it and thought it was well worth the price.

Europe has way better GSM coverage than America, I belive you will not have a problems.
I don't know have you purchased device only or plan.
When I travel somewhere I bring my GSM phone then upon arrival I buy local prepaid sim card. Thats cheapest soulution usually but drawback is that you have to give your contacts new phone number.
And easier and chipest way of comunication is SMS messages, I mean thats what I use alot...

As advertised the Sim card came with it for many countries. Evidentally I will always have the same phone number, but will only be billed when it is used. No monthly fees, etc. :mobile_ph
