Has anybody ever been to Budapest?

We are planning a European river trip next year that goes to Budapest. I don't know much about it...has anybody ever been there? What's it like??

Hi everyone,

I know this question about Budapest was posted a long, long time ago already, but as I can give my contribution and, also, as there may always be someone interested, I decided to answer.

I was in Budapest way back in July 2002, as part of an organized tour and I must tell you it is a city which is very much worth a visit.

Budapest is kind of halved by River Danube. On one side stands the older, mountainous Buda, on the other side lays
the modern, flat Pest. All the way along the river were built 9 bridges and you'll find 3 small islands as well. I strongly advise anyone to take some time and visit one of the higher spots, like Castle District or Fisherman's Bastion, for instance, to have a look at the entire city, it's beautiful!

Apart from this, you can also visit Matthias Crurch, Opera House, Heroes Square, Lake's Garden, one (or more) of the Thermal Baths and so on and on and on.

Just in case anyone is interested in Budapest, we have just posted the review of our recent Danube River cruise (Budapest to Prague) on the AMA Waterways Amalyra on our website www.thepreismans.com. It is very long, so much so that we had to do it in two parts. There are over 800 photos in the review. We do apologize to those people with slow Internet connectivity for putting in so many photos; but with so many beautiful churches and other lovely places on this trip, we couldn’t resist.

There are also links at the end of each part of the review to our SnapFish albums that have photos in a larger format. They have been put into four separate albums to provide for faster download.

This was our first European river cruise and we just loved it. If you have been on a Danube River cruise before, we hope that this review will bring back some fond memories. If you have never been on a river cruise, hopefully the review will show you what they are like. Enjoy!
