Thanks Carol and Mike for such a detailed revue. I have only read part 1 so far. I just came back from a 24 day cruise on the Diamond Princess from Beijing to Vancouver(and am looking forward to reading your review of the Diamond also ) and in Vancouver at a food show I attended a talk on river cruises which wheted my appetite. So your review was most welcome.
now a couple of questions
At the talk we had the boat had 40 bicycles for guests to use. Since mike didn't mention anything in part 1 I assume your cruise did not ?
You mentioned some people danced to the piano music. How big was the dance floor , how many people could it accomadate comfortably ?

Thanks again Carol, I just wanted to get a feel to see if the dancefloor was crowded. It obviously wasn't.
Just read the Diamond Princess review, brought back fond memories.
Another question did you by any chnace document the 'daily planners' somewhere. It would be interesting to read one or two of those from a River Cruise.

No, we didn't document the planners because they are so unique to that particular day on that particular cruise. They mostly just told about the upcoming port. The biggest difference is that they don't contain all of the advertising and pushing products like the others.

Carol, I have looked (read that drooled) over river cruises for years. I knew a bit about them but your review is so extensive. Good, no make that great, job.

Thanks Carol. I guess on a river cruise there isn't the equivalent of sea days. You are always stopping somewhere in the day so there is no reason or space to supply lots of on-board activities.
Thanks again for the review , I thoroughly enjoyed it. And the Diamond Princess one too.

Carol,
Two questions, What was the makeup of the passengers, mostly American, British, other European, or what?
Second question. What was the smoking policy on the cruise?
I don't know the percentages, but there were mostly passengers from America, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. I only met two Europeans, but there may have been more.
I don't know the smoking policy, but you can probably find out from their website.

Neal,
Since my last reply, Mike told me that smoking is limited to the upper deck. River cruises move so slowly, that I guess it must not be the issue it is on ocean ships.

Thanks Carol! My wife and I are both highly allergic to tobacco which has deterred us from taking a river cruise. But they sound so nice and really let you see the countryside in all its splendor.
Besides, hopping from island to island verses seeing Europe. That is a no brainer!
