Copenhagen

And who's been to Copenhagen? What did you do or what would you recommend?

The first time we were in Copenhagen we were post-cruise for a day and on our own. We got an all-day pass for the hop-on/hop-off bus-great way to see the high points. We also strolled up the main pedestrian shopping venue and took the canal tour--liked that a lot. We went to the Tivoli Gardens around sunset to see it transition to it's nighttime charm. We found Copenhagen to be a very "walkable" and tourist friendly city.

Our second visit was still part of our Baltic Cruise and we took an excursion to the castles and palaces: we really enjoyed that tour which included a stop at Elsinore Castle, which many suspect is the setting for "Hamlet".

We recommend you take up a walking tour with Hans Christian Andersen. He's actually an American who married a woman and took up residence in Copenhagen. His website is www.Copenhagenwalks.com and he is known throughout the entire city (people will actually call him Mr. Andersen!). He took us through the back streets of Copenhagen and gave us so much history!! It's very inexpensive.

We also went through the National Museum, which was free on Wednesdays. That was quite something as well....Our boat was parked 5 minutes walking distance from the Lil Mermaid, so we saw her on the way back.
