Luggage checked at LAX will be processed thru to final destination. Each passenger is entitled to 2 pieces of checked baggage 50lb limit. There is a $25 dollar surcharge for over the limit luggage.
Items weighing 51 to 70lbs. Items that exceeds 71 Lbs will have a surcharge is $100. accessed.
Each Passenger is entitled to one carry on of 40lb.
In addition one personal bag(backpack, purse)
It's my personal observation that 150 pounds person may be in excess going but maybe not in coming home. Shop wisely if not it's gong to cost you more in the long run.

Joey, one thing I just thought of. On the flight home, won't we be governed by the baggage rules of Iberia and/or BA depending on what airline you are using? Since AA is only the second leg of the return flight, not the first leg as it is on the trip to BCN.

It really helps to know ahead of time the layout if you have to go between terminals.
They will tell you how long you can expect the transfer between terminals to take, with and without bags to check.
As far as baggage policies, usually if the flight involves a transatlantic or other overseas leg, with a direct connection on a domestic leg, the policy for overseas baggage takes precidence...IF the two airlines have a connection agreement.
So, you should be able to check your bags through to Los Angeles from Barcelona, and visa-versa, without having to worry about AA's domestic baggage policy.
If your bag is over AA's domestic 50lb limit, you probably should be OK since your bag is being checked from Barcelona. The overseas limit is usually 70 lbs.
You can confirm this policy by phone with the airline you are flying overseas on, or at the gate when checking your bag.
