    Eurodam Transatlantic Aug 24, 2011

Talk about an almost perfect itinerary!
Wed Aug 24 London (Dover), England
    Thu Aug 25 Amsterdam, Holland
    Fri Aug 26 Zeebrugge, Belgium
    Sat Aug 27 At Sea
    Sun Aug 28 Dublin, Ireland
    Mon Aug 29 At Sea
    Tue Aug 30 Torshavn, Denmark
    Wed Aug 31 At Sea
    Thu Sep 1 Reykjavik, Iceland
    Fri Sep 2 At Sea
Sat Sep 3 Cruising Prince Christian Sound
    Sun Sep 4 Nanortalik, Greenland
    Mon Sep 5 At Sea
Tue Sep 6 St. John's, NL, Canada
    Wed Sep 7 At Sea
Thu Sep 8 Halifax, NS, Canada
    Fri Sep9 At Sea
Sat Sep10 New York (Manhattan), NY

Really cool (no pun intended) ports, lots of days at sea, and the ports and sea days are intermingled perfectly!

I would prefer more time in the some of the ports, but since this is already a 17 day cruise, that would be pushing it. It ends in NY on the 10th anniversary on the attack on the US, so I think there will be special things going on that weekend.

We booked this while onboard our last cruise, and I hope others from this board will be available to travel with us. DH is still not sure that he can do this (because of work), but I am hopeful.

I guess she could, but I think it would be difficult to keep him blindfolded from Texas to London and then to Dover.

My inlaws will not be joining us, so we get to misbehave.

We have chosen to go with airfare through HAL, since they were cheaper than anything we could find directly through airlines. Since we get into NY the weekend of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, we are getting the hotel through HAL. It's NOT cheap, but still less money than going directly throught the hotel. The HAL hotel in London is sold out, so we are going elsewhere, but I am not as worried about that one.

For our port calls, I am still working out what to do. I realized today that I have spent 6 months planning for cruises with 3 ports of call in the past, so with 8 ports of call I should really have started in Feb 2010. Oh Well! On port is taken care of - Nanortalik in Greenland has no excursions, but the town has entertainment planned for us. I don't know what to expect, but it does sound like fun.

We will do Amsterdam on our own, and we will do a ship's excursion in Reykjavik. That's 3 down, and 5 more to figure out. Wish me luck!

Oh, if anyone can recommend private guides for Bruges, Dublin, Torshavn, Newfoundland or Halifax, please let me know.

Just learned that this ship will be the only one in port when we are in Amsterdam, Zeebrugge, Torshavn, Reykjavik and Nanortalik. It is so much easier to get around when you aren't competing with cruisers from other ships while out to eat, shopping, etc. And in the case of the smaller ports, it's almost mandatory! In Torshavn in the Faroe Islands, we will be the only ship visiting for the whole month of August!

In our other ports, there will be other ships. In Dublin, there are 2 other ships with us, and it has caused a problem finding a private tour guide. In St John's in Newfoundland, there will be one other ship - the Caribbean Princess, and in Halifax, there will be 2 other ships. The arrival and departure times are fairly well staggered, but I am still concerned about getting to see things without crowds of people surrounding us.

But we will see how it all works out, of course!
