Alisa - don't know if Tallinn is still on your agenda....We just LOVED it. Prices were great and the hand-made items were easy to find. We went to a glassbowers shop where I met one of the artists and bought a very unusual vase that she had made!

Here's some of our pix. It was Mother's Day and there was a concert in the square - the reason for the TV cameras!

To this day when DH and I hear anybody mention the word "Estonia" on TV or anything we both go..."Awwww.....Estonia..." because of the fond memories of the place.

My Dh & I do the "same exact thing" when we think of Venice!

Just got back from our Baltic cruise and will post a few thoughts on Tallinn. I was really looking forward to seeing it because it is the oldest in tact midieval city. I wasn't disappointed. You can see the top of the hill of the old city from the shop. We did a walking tour, starting at the top (in the rain) and worked our way down the many stairs and the winding streets, finally rain free. The buildings, the old walls and towers, the various forms of the cobblestone streets, shopping in the markets, the big open square with all the vendors of trinkets and food. We saw a performance in an old grassy square with very tall old monestary walls surrounding us on all sides. It was 2 gals and a guy dressed in period clothes playing period instruments, very good.
We were supposed to meet at the MacDonalds in the town square after we walked around on our own. We all were dying for a cup of coffee, so went in. We were unable to get one as we had all run out of the local money and they wouldn't take American money there. Imagine, no American money at an American establishment, We all thought that was very funny. It was the only place on the cruise where we couldn't use American money!
I loved the whole experience,

Saw your comments on those little dolls. In St Petersburg I was able to barter for some to bring back to friends, got them for $5 each. I know they weren't the high quality ones but made nice, reasonable souvineers. I also found some little magnets there. They were only one each but painted like the dolls and at $1 each made nice souvineers for my coworkers!
