Hi everyone - I haven't been around lately, but I'm still on this cruise. I've pretty much given up on the other rollcall, I just can't keep up.
I just booked a cruise on HAL for this October, on the Maasdam, a 14 night southern caribbean. Anyone here been on HAL? It will be my first cruise with them and I really don't know what to expect.
Terri, I've been on the Maasdam on six cruises - great ship. Food isn't quite as classy as X but the service is impeccable. I know you'll like it. I've been scoping out some HAL cruises myself since they have really good single supplements (and sometimes none at all).

I think HAL is a good choice if you like a very relaxed (in terms of activities) pace and aren't looking for too much excitement. We liked the food better than Celebrity on our Westerdam cruise and the cabins were also the most comfortable we'd ever had at sea but we found the ship and activity schedule rather dull and decided it wasn't for us.
When I point out (quite reasonably, I think) to Garry that the documents always say boarding begins at 2:00, I get one of those looks. Everybody knows them. It's clear the "looker" thinks the "lookee" has either lost his mind or is just terminally stupid.
And then she says something like "I don't care too much when YOU board, but by 2:00, I intend to have had my lunch, finished my first drink and started unpacking any bags that have made it to the cabin".
She sounds a lot like Michael. I was the one wanting to go a bit early on our first cruise but now, I practically have to sedate him to avoid his wanting to go to the ship directly from his morning shower. He likes to get lots of pictures before there are too many "tourists" on the ship. I'm not quite sure who he thinks we are if we're not tourists.
I think we're pretty much in Garry's camp on this one. We were on a cruise once on one of the last days and met a person who claimed they hadn't seen the whole ship yet because there was "too much to do" and i thought Mike was going to tell them they're doing it wrong.
Well, if there are too many to keep track of, maybe we should cancel a few.
You may be reading my obituary in the weekend papers.
I suggested the same thing to Mike yesterday, because the roof on the house need to be replaced. I don't think we'll be canceling any cruises, based on the expression on his face when I said this.
Um... that'd be me. Long story. When the German link wouldn't work, I recreated one from the US server so that I could see the pics. That's what I posted here as an alternate.
So, CHRIS, you stole my Album (and I still don't know who Earl is)!! That means I can hit you for copyright fees!

We, too, used to sail HAL. (I've got my 100 day medal! YAH!) We were on Rydam for 2 canal cruises and enjoyed it. Food not as good as X and the "excitement" was as great, but still nice. Truthfully, a ship and cruiseline would have to be really bad for the whole trip to be bad.
I enjoy X better, but wouldn't hesitate to do another HAL cruise to the right places and on the right ship.
