I'm still struggling with the perception. According to the deck plans, there are 7 decks with aft cabins. It looks like 6 are drawn on the artist's conception in white and the top one is gray. Even the picture from the ship yard doesn't show the top deck well.

How hard would it have been to extend each balcony 1 foot? That would have made the Continental deck balconies much closer to the edge. I'm with Garry, I wouldn't want the cleaning detail for that area and it sure looks like our balcony privacy would be compromised. Of course, if I were doing anything out there most people would be ashamed of, I would probably be quite proud of myself.

Well, gang, I finally have read all of the posts on this. This has created a few problems for me, however: 1) I have now added Norway to my list of places to sail and created a list so long I'll need to live for another 100 years to do complete it (pix were fantastic!) 2) I need to be able to better visualize the back of ships, or at least, the back of the Solstice class.

Much better here. More sane, but that doesn't mean the posters are.....more sane, I mean.

I guess we haven't yet taken the cruise where I begin wanting to home. We did 19 days and I figured 23 would be perfect. Now I need to test that out....oh yes, I have another 100 years to do that.

We're in Charleston SC with a down day for work. I know....great city.....what fun....good food....etc. But when you've been coming here for 5 years of work....well, I suspect you get the picture.

Have a good day everyone. Phil, I bookmarked the shipyard site. It's really too cool to realize that we are really watching them build a ship...not ours, of course, but a ship.

    One day...soon I hope...that will be Equinox.

I'd agree that the Resort Deck seems to have an overhang from the deck above and looks a bit darker, but on the Meyer Werft webcam there doesn't appear to have been much work on that deck (paint, patio doors etc) and that probably exaggerates it.

I'm no design expert, but I can see why they didn't extend all the aft facing balconies a bit. The designer(s) seem to be wanting to create a straight diagonal line from the top of the aft of the ship to the water, accentuated by the sloping rear end (that's the best way I can describe it. See, I told you I was no design expert!). If they did extend the balconies then the lines would be compromised. The only other thing would be to do away with the ledge all together, but then that would seem to be part of the design brief for that part of the ship. I think it does look kind of distinctive like that. The other thing is the slope of the hull at the back will probably enable a pretty good view of most of the wake from the aft balconies (instead of being straight down like on Connie if you see what I mean).

As for the last part of your post, I'm starting to regret our opening balcony divide

I think it looks great in the artist's rendering. Still looks like a ship. I am ever so grateful they didn't do something weird like the Princess ships (Golden Princess?) that look like giant shopping carts! They have about the same # pax and tonnage as Solstice but they're ugly!

    Have you considered selling tickets?

Phil, I fear you may be right. Of course, my balcony will probably only be a couple of feet deep anyway, but at least we will have one this time.
