Our kids have had a student from Norway with them since last August. Garry, we met her the day we got back from the Vegas Fest. She will be on the Mercury cruise with us and here in California until July. She is such a typical teen ager (she's 17) I ask her questions about Norway history etc. and she knows just about nothing. Karolina is delightful and we will miss her but if I need info I use the Internet.
I too would love to sail that area.....all the family is Russian, maybe make it there too. Chuck
Homemade lefse, with cinnamon and sugar. Yummy. My grandmother would send it from North Dakota for us to enjoy a couple of times a year. And no Lars, I don't remember where in Norway the family was from, but I think I can find out.
It is interesting that I should have mentioned her family as I don't normally talk about my step-mother but I learned last night that she passed away yesterday. Strange timing. She had a stroke a couple of years ago and has required around the clock care for the last year. It has been provided by my younger brother (half-brother, I guess) and his wife up in Alaska.
I'd love to share a fjords cruise with Ken & MaryLou. Perhaps in 2010.

Looks like we have already set some plans for the fjords in 2010. Nothing like planning ahead!
Susan, sorry to hear of your stepmother's passing.
Oh dear, Lars. There is one meat I don't eat and that's lamb and I am one of those funny folk that don't eat fish either. It's not looking good, is it? I love porridge though
Chuck, you always make me smile with your straightforward, no nonsense comments. She knows just about nothing so you use the internet gave me a good chuckle.

Planning way ahead is good!! Not that I am doing it but if the Celebrity and Azamara cruises for this year and 2009 is anything to go by then we should have one fine cruise coming up in 2010, if it happenes......
LOL
Garry, you probably ate "wild" salmon oposed to the farmed salmon. The difference is like night and day.
Chuck, What does any 17 year olds now about anything???? I am not surprised she is clueless. Norwegian children are more interested in what is happening in America then in their own country. I think the Norwegian society is becomming more and more Americanized. Which I am not saying is by any means bad but this is Norway not the USA. For her and other teenagers the national dish is probably a dreadfull non tasty $2 pizza called grandiosa!! In fact it the best selling food item in Norway.
But she will "live and learn" - the joys of betting older.
Susan, Sorry to hear about your step mother.
Lefse is wonderful to eat. OUR Hanna makes her own!! But she puts potatoes in them..
and ofcourse there is the Norwegian waffles. which are sweet and we eat them with sour cream and strawberry jam on top!!!!!!!!!!
Phil, no fish and no lamb. No problems at all, there are a multitude of foods which you can eat.
I am not a great fan of lamb either. I have tried bear which is ok, what about deer or venison or even goat cooked in a rich creamy sauce??? One thing for sure is that you will not starve..LOL
A question, are you living in Harpenden in Hertfordshire??????????

That's fine. I had guinea fowl for the first time on Sunday and loved it, but that is not gamy at all. It tastes like chicken! Not too keen on things like venison, but I'm sure I won't starve. And yes, I am in Harpenden in Hertfordshire

I really like lamb but our household has given up eating "baby sheep." I don't know (nor do I care to) about the breeding process' involved but do know enough not to question my wife. I also enjoy Tulip but that fish is also on our "no eat list."
Deer? no thanks. I refuse to eat what may have been the mother of Bambi.
Oh, except when on a cruise, there, all bets are off. Chuck
Phil/Chuck, there a wonderful restaurant up in Sonoma called the "Farmhouse Inn" Very nice, Michellin star and all that. They serve "Rabbit 3 ways" - a loin wrapped in pancetta, a confit of rabbit leg, and a paillard of breast. As I munched away on it last time, I had to admit I had the Wagnerian "Kill the wabbitt, kill the Wabbitt, KILL the WABBITT" song by Elmer Fudd going through my head!
Bob and Garry, BON VOYAGE!!!!

I went to the Celebrity website and looked at prices for this cruise Inside cabis start at around $1100 and Balconies at aroud $2k. We got a corner FOV on the Summit for 2008 TA at 4K for the whole family of 4. Why do you think this TA is running so much more expensive? Do you think this will come down?

I think that it may be the new ship, Suzanne, plus the itinerary which includes some of the Western Med. Celebrity's prices have been creeping up anyway and this may just be more of the same.
I also don't think that the prices will come down on this one. They have sold too many cabins too early to have to worry about filling the ship. The Solstice, leaving a little later in the month, is a bit more reasonable. The best prices were offered early to the Captain's Club members, of which we failed to take advantage.
Guess this means we will have to start reading the stuff they send us...
