I knew I liked the Rhapsody for a good reason! Much more than the Mariner!

I didn't realize they had done any of the vision class ships with strait hull sections until someone mentioned it in regard to streching the other week. On that Travel/Discovery Channel show about the building of Voyager I saw the other year, they talked about the hull being done in strait sections. This was the only way they could mke delivery in such a short time. Because of limited space and the sixe of their facilities, it was faster to build the pieces seperately and paste (weld) then together near the end. I just don't trust building a ship that way. Then again, I would rather have rivits instead of just welds. Weld the rivits down and then I would really trust it!

Chuck, have you seen the video that RCI has called "The Building of the Voyager". Is that the same video you are talking about. It is very good! I don't recall what you are talking about though. I probably need to watch it again. Obviously some engineers think it's OK the way it is! I don't know enough to make an educated guess either way. I've always heard that welds were as strong if they were welded correctly.

In this same edition, is an article on the Caymans. There is a picture of a restaurant called Breezes. I want to tell you, if you go there, eat there! We had lunch and it was really great. We were up on the balcony and it overlooks the bay. I'd give my eye teeth to be there right now.

Not sure which ships, but someone on the Vision said last week that RC has made the decision not to stretch 2 of the Vision Class Ships because of their design. Not being an engineer.........not sure why........but I was told it was the 2 ships from the same builder.......

It was me who posted the info on the Vision class stretching. At first RCI had plans to stretch Enchantment, Grandeur, Vision and Rhapsody. After further research and planning, it has been decided that the Vision and Rhapsody will not be lengthened after all. This is due to the differences in the way the 2 shipyards constructed the ships. Enchantment and Grandeur were built in Finland, and the Vision and Rhapsody were built in France. Apparently, the Fins build the ships in vertical "blocks" where the French build the ship horizontially from the bottom up making it much harder to cut the ships in half. The cost and labor involved in cutting the Vision and Rhapsody lead RCI to scrap their original plans to lengthen these two.
Grandeur is scheduled to be stretched in 2006.
