REview - Enchantment Of the Seas = 10/10/06

[B]We have just returned from our Enchantment of the Seas 5 day cruise to the Western Caribbean. It was wonderful!

The Ship: She was "stretched" and the mid section is fairly new. The Centrum area is beautiful with lots of shops, lounges and things to do. The midships cabins are newer, but we had a Jr Suite #8138, which was aft and we really loved it. The bedding is all new, and is so comfortable. The aft section shows some signs of age, but nothing glaringly noticeable. It was comfortable, a good size, and very clean. We were beneath the Solarium pool and did hear some chairs moving, but mostly during the day. There are no toiletries provided except soap and a shampoo dispenser in the shower...no shower caps. This may bother some so i mention it here. Didn't matter to us.

Dining: We ate in the main dining room except for one night. The food is very good. Better than we expected. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. We dined one night at Chops, the specialty restaurant. We are not big time steak eaters, and the other options were limited. The service, while good, was nothing up to the par that you generally expect from an alternate restaurant on a cruise. If you like steak, you will enjoy Chops. We would probably not dine there again. The food on the Windjammer Buffet is quite varied and very good. The Windjammer is very, very crowded during peak hours, so we avoided those times. We went off peak for snacks and coffee, etc. and loved it. It's in the bow section and the vews are great. Breakfast in the dining room is very good.

We were on a very much needed getaway. so we just relaxed and did not see any shows or took any excursions, so I can't help too much there. I did hear folks saying the shows were good. We did go ashore in both ports. Went to the Island Village shopping area in Ocho Rios. It's very nice, with lots of shopping and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. It's walking distance from the ship. We tendered to shore in Grand Cayman. Tendering went smoothly. There were two other ships anchnored and the town was very, very crowded....and LOADED with jewelry shops. I recommend an excursion in Grand Cayman.

Overall Impressions: This was our first RCI cruise, and we were very pleasantly surprised by RCI and the Enchantment. She is a beautiful ship! The crew is the friendliest we've encountered on any of our cruises. We did not have any children with us, but observed the crew taking care of the kids. They had the kids interact a bit with the fellow cruisers and the little ones were really enjoying themselves. It seemed to me that RCI has a better children's program than I've seen on other cruise lines. At least this was so on the Enchantment. To sum it up, we had good food, a great crew, a really nice cabin, calm seas...what more can anyone ask for? I highly recommend RCI and the Enchantment of the Seas!!! [B]

Nice to see that your RCL experience compares well with the other lines you have been on.

    Thanks for the review

Awesome review Kathy!! The Enchantment is our favorite RC ship, wish she would go back to 7 days!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

I'm pretty sure she will, Sue, because the Navigator OTS is doing the 4 and 5 day cruises in 2007 that the Enchantment does now. Also, BtoB would be great on the EOS since it goes Western 5 days and Wastern 4 days.

We loved the "new" Enchantment when we went last February.

We anchored in Cozumel and did not go ashore. But we have been ashore in Cozumel before. If you dock, there will be a very nice shopping area. If you anchor, you will be dropped off right in the middle of town. Either way, lots of shopping. You will love this ship. It was our first RCI cruise and we were impressed enough to try again on the Jewel. Loved that too and will be on te Jewel again in April. Enjoy your cruise. It's a lovely ship.
