If you are scheduled to cruise out of Galveston anytime during Sept or Oct 2008, please check with your travel agent about departure changes. Access to Galveston island is limited to emergency personnel only and there is no telling when the cruise terminal will be operational again.

On hiatus from cruising, but still very interested!!!
Why is that? Because of Hurricane season? I'm glad we are leaving 8/22/09, that puts us out side the window you posted.

Stopped counting after 110 cruises.
That was for 2008, after Hurricane Ike ripped through Galveston, turning many, many homes and businesses into piles of rubbble. No cruises departed from there for a while, as there was water damage to the cruise terminal, and tne entire area was without electricity or water service for quite a long while.
AFter Ike struck, those who had parked their cars iin Galveston while cruising could not even get back onto the island to retrieve their vehicles for some time - those that WERE retrievable, that is.
