Question Casa de Campo -- Help needed PLEASE!

My grandchildren (10 & 14) will have a cruise stop in Casa de Campo this April. Any suggestions on what they should do there would be very much appreciated.

    Which ship, which line?

Casa De Campo is very close to Half Moon Cay. Are they going their with the possibility of an excursion to Casa De Campo? Or is Casa De Campo the actual port of call?

If I don't know the answer I'm fairly certain I can find it.

PE .... Casa De Campo, Dominican Republic, is an actual port of call (11:00 AM -- 6:00 PM) for them on ExplorerOTS in April.

It's a 9-Night cruise out of Cape Liberty, NJ, on April 11, 2008.

We'd like to find something the girls (10 & 14) would enjoy doing in Casa De Campo so any suggestions would be appreciated since we've never been there and are clueless.

I found this write-up over on the Dark Side.

PE .... Thanks for checking on DS!

My daughter and son-in-law have cruised ... just not recently, never on RCCL, and not to Casa de Campo. (As you would probably assume, our daughter has been cruising since she was a child -- with us as parents... not a shocker! ) Also, they've traveled quite a bit and would have no problem taking a taxi to a beach on their own.

Still, looking over your DS info ... the taxi thing may not be an easy thing to do ... especially with the children. That "Bayahibe Beach Break" offered by the ship seems like it could be decent?

Thanks again for your help on this.

LuLu, have decided what they are going to do next month? Be sure to post their experience after they return so others can have a first hand report

Sorry I'm just seeing this. We were in Casa de Campo last year March on the Costa Magica.

We did an Eco-Tour purchased on the ship, drove down to Punta Cana on the tour bus. It was a very nice tour down the coast on high speed boats, through the swamp. When we returned to the ship we had lunch on board, then hired a taxi to downtown La Romana for US$20(for three of us), and for an extra US$10, we went to Altos de Chavon, an area designed as an old Spanish town with shops etc. We drove through Casa de Campo, a resort area with private homes and saw the marina on the way back to the port.
There was also a tour to Santo Domingo, the Capital of the Dom. Republic, but we were glad we didn't take that tour as the drive alone is 4 hours round trip. There are a few other tours offered by Costa, I'll have to dig them up.

There are many cruise lines now including Casa de Campo/ La Romana, and another port in the Dominican Republic on their itineraries. Carnival, Costa, and Royal Caribbean are a few among others who have added this to their itineraries.

Many are staying overnight here as they offer excursions to the capital, Santo Domingo, which is a 2 hour drive each way from the port. This enables guests to tour the area of La Romano, Casa de Campo, Altos de Chavon and Punta Cana the next day.

    Thanks EVERYONE!

Our children/grandchildren actuallly ended-up just staying on the ship. They said that it was one of their nicest days -- beautiful WARM weather and they hung out by the pool and did whatever they wished ... when they wished.

While they had fun doing this, my DH and I would have done something ... probably, the beach.
