Question Are ALL Beaches in Dominica BLACK Sand?

The only beaches we've ever seen (very few) in Dominia were BLACK Sand. Wondering if ALL beaches there are Black Sand?

LuLu, I don't know if they all have black sand in Dominica, but I can tell you how black sand beaches were formed.

    Caribbean Black Sand Beaches
Formed when hot lava flows into the Caribbean Sea, and breaks into black sand pieces which eventually flows back to the shore. The texture of black sand is course, unlike white sand or pink sand beaches. Volcanic black sand beaches of the Caribbean's volcanic islands include: St. Lucia, Grenada, Dominica, Nevis, St. Kitts and Montserrat.

The texture can vary on black sand beachs just like it does on white and/or golden sand beaches. It's like normal sand ... just black!

It's also HARD to wash off! Could be because it's black and we tend to notice the places we missed!

    Hello LuLu,

Infact Dominica has one white sand beach. It is located on the eastern side of the island, which unfortunately is on the atlantic side of the ocean. This is one of the reasons that is not widely heard of, and also because it is a long distance away from the two main ports of entry.

Thanks, Sylvia! Do you remember the name of the beach?
