Exclamation Mexican Riviera sailings cancelled for December 2012

Mexican Riviera sailings on the Wonder have been cancelled for December 9, 16, 23, 30, 2012. No details regarding the reason for this change have been released yet. Guests who are currently booked on one of these sailings will need to move their reservation to another available sail date of a 7-night or longer sailing.

If guests move their reservations by 12/22/11, they are eligible for an onboard credit, in addition to any that they may already qualify for. For the 12/09/12 and 12/16/12 sailings, guests will receive a $250 onboard credit. For the 12/23/12 and 12/30/12 sailings, they will receive a $500 onboard credit. If guests do not move their reservation by 12/22/11, they will automatically be placed on the 12/02/12 Mexican Riviera sailing.

Disney has set up a special phone number to handle the changes to existing reservations: 1-866-325-3905.

Four weeks and two of them are the highest demand of the year.
I assume the must be clearing the decks for a charter.
    A very expensive charter.

It may be a while before word get out on what is happening

I think it MAY have something to do with their MR cruises not selling well due to all the violence in Mexico. Some people won't get off the ship in certain ports there. Excursions for their MR sailings through DCL are apparently also not selling well, so they lose a lot of money on that. I'm sure they've lost a lot offering so many "Kids Sail Free" incentives and still not filling the ships with enough full-fare adults. Especially for families with children, the MR may not be too appealing right now.

It is far enough out that no one could have booked air yet so won't lose on that. I'm not defending DCL and I feel sorry for those who booked and were looking forward to those cruises, but things may work out for the best.

Although it IS possible it could be due to a charter, in this case I doubt it. DCL has been re-thinking and making a lot of changes lately - things they maybe should have considered from the beginning.

Actually, poor bookings makes more sense than a charter.

The options are limited on where to send the ship instead of Mexico. They could fit in a couple round trips to Hawaii but I can not see to much of a market for that with kids. I suppose they could send her through the canal and sail the Caribbean in 2013.

I will be interesting to see what she ends up doing during that time.

Poor bookings is the reason. The ship, Disney Wonder will be sailing from Miami, FL
