The Disney Magic rescued 18 Algerians lost at sea

    A real-life happy-ever-after!

The Disney Magic rescued 18 Algerians lost at sea last Friday.

It's been said a spokeswoman from Disney Cruise Line has stated that the 2,400-passenger vessel joined in with the search for the Algerians as they cruised into the area on route from Gibraltar to Barcelona.

Apparently, the Algerians had been bobbing about in open water for 4-5 days.

"The shipboard team heard crew members from two other vessels talking on the radio about sighting the boat and then losing a visual of it, so the Disney Magic then joined the search and quickly spotted the small boat, which had lost power," Disney spokeswoman Rena Langley says.

A passenger posted a first-hand account at a Disney Fan Site over the weekend.

The stranded men must have been mesmorised with their 'Magic' rescue - and all the food and luxury cabin allocations that followed!

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Well, Disney has another boat if they want to enforce the salvage law!

There's a long tradition of providing assistance at sea, and nearly every captain will do so ... or face hefty fines and possibly go to jail: Ask Attorney Under maritime law, you are compelled to render assistance.

There are exceptions; you do not have to put your boat or crew in danger to do so, but if you see a vessel in distress, and you can respond, you must render assistance. The law recognizes the cost you can incur, and you can usually claim the boat as yours under the salvage law.
