Disney Magic Unable to Leave Bahamas!

Here's a copy of what I just posted on my blog:

Disney Magic Delayed by High Winds

The Disney Magic, which was due in Port Canaveral earlier this morning for a turn-around, is reported to be stuck in The Bahamas, unable to leave due to high winds.

Of course, this means that the passengers currently on board the ship, who should have disembarked this morning, may be missing air connections. And those due to board for the next cruise, slated to leave this afternoon, are stuck in the Disney cruise terminal!

I'll bring you updates as soon as I know anything more.

Cruising Musings reminds everyone that it's always a good idea to plan to arrive at the city of your port of embarkation a day early and make post cruise travel plans that are flexible, as one never knows when something beyond anyone's control might alter the ship's schedule.

This cruise news brought to you by Cruise Ready Store, your source for cruise gear, travel accessories, and cruise and ocean liner memorabilia.

Oh dear, I am sure there are some very unhappy people in Port Canaveral.

Disney Cruise Line issued the following statement to the media Saturday morning:
Due to weather conditions, the Disney Magic cruise ship has been delayed in its scheduled return to Port Canaveral today from a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise. Guests on the ship will remain onboard tonight and will debark tomorrow.

The Disney Magic cruise ship was at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay in The Bahamas yesterday, where gale force winds at the end of the day and into the night created an unfavorable environment for departure. Because the safety of our guests is our top priority, we made a decision to delay the ship’s return until the weather improved.
As a result of the situation, the Disney Magic will depart for its next outbound Eastern Caribbean cruise on Sunday, a day late from its original itinerary.

Guests scheduled for today’s departure have the option of spending the day at Epcot, and we are working to find resort rooms to accommodate those guests tonight.
We regret that weather conditions prohibited our timely return to Port Canaveral and appreciate our guests patience and understanding.

Guests should contact Disney Cruise Line at 1-800-939-2784, if they have questions about their cruise.

Sounds like it is a change for everyone but not really a bad one. Those on ship get an extra day, those getting ready to board the ship get an extra day at Epcot. And I bet Disney will give everyone some sort of credit.

I foresee some nice OBC for those who were scheduled to board yesterday. Glad she got home safely.

Here's what DCL is doing for the passengers who were stuck on board for an extra day:
    • free cell phone service to make flight changes
    • 20% off a future cruise
    • assistance with rebooking anything booked through DCL originally
The people who are being shorted a day (they'll be skipping St Maarten) receive:

    • day passes to Epcot for Saturday (includes transport from port area hotels for those who needed it)
    • $15pp dining card to use at WDW Saturday
    • hotel for Saturday night (WDW if they are already there, otherwise high-end Orlando area hotels)
    • $20pp onboard credit to cover Saturday's dinner
    • $100 per stateroom shipboard credit
    • 20% refund on this cruise or a full refund if they opt to cancel
The ship is back in Port Canaveral and is docked at one of the commercial ship piers along the channel, as all the regular cruise ship piers are occupied.
