A weighty subject

The anchor on the Disney Magic weighs 28,200 pounds – about the same as three full-grown elephants. Each ship weighs 90 million pounds.

Or about the same weight as some of the passengers who have taken full advantage of the buffet.

Three.

One affixed to chain on each side of the bow, ready for use, and a "spare" secured to the deck on the bow, out near the crew swimming pool.

That seem like a lot of extra weight to carry but I suppose it is necessary to have it.

Thanks, Char! Glad to be aboard.

Just happened to have a picture of the spare anchor - gives you some idea of the size.

Haha! It even looks like something Disney! Other anchors look more "somber" compared to this bright yellow one.

Heehee... Yep, that's Mickey Mouse Shoes yellow. And did you notice the shape of the three openings in the deck forward of the anchor?

From the "Here's Your Totally Useless Random Fact Of The Day" Department - - DCL had to get an exemption from the Coast Guard to paint all their lifeboats the same shade of yellow as that anchor. Previously, lifeboats aboard all ships were required to be orange.
