Does Disney ever discount their cruises or do they just always sell out all their cabins?
Honestly...I don't think the DCL is worth twice as much as Carnival. I for one have never had a bad CCL cruise...the kids room has been wonderful etc.

It is very rare that DCL offers big enough discounts that make it that much more affordable....unfortunately.

I priced out a Verandah cabin for 4, for April, as we are considering changing our Princess cruise....it was $7000! this was a 7 night cruise...but..ummm, I can go on two cruises for that price! Maybe even more if we do Carnival.

Thanks for answering this honestly. Upon second glance, I was worried that my questions would come off as, well, snippy. But I really was wondering.

What I am going to type might be controversial to some of the other posts here. That is what I love about this board you can state your opinon and no one will flame you.

We have done DCL three times. We chose this cruiseline realzing it was more expensive then CCL and RCI for our childrens first 2 cruises. Matter of a fact our TA did work ups on all three cruises and for what the DCL was we could have stayed in a very nice suite on the other two.

The first cruise was awesome and the while on the ship we booked our next year's cruise. The second cruise was amazing too but in just one year we noticed our children were not as happy with the over all experience.

When we go on a family cruise it is about our family. Since Jeff and I could not do a lot of the adult activities we chose to do an adult Disney cruise. Yes we had a good time. We chose to add the romance package which added to the adult couples time.

Then next year's cruise was needed to be booked. We chose a 4 day Disney due to the fact we had not done the 4 day cruise. The kids were excited but then they saw The Freedom of the Seas. We cancelled the Dinsey and booked the Freedom. We had a verandah room on the Wonder and we were able to go with FOS with a balcony and a PR room for 7 days for the same price as the Wonder.

I have to say we never once regretted our decision to go with RCI. We had one of the most amazing cruises ever. That was a year ago. My children are now 14 and soon to be 13. If I give them the choice of ship I know it would NEVER be Disney again.

With this I will summarize with a few points that is true for my family. We out grew Disney. For us the price is not worth the Disney experience at all. Yes the cruiseline has some nice points but bottom line for us it is not worth the money.
The good points for Disney is the fact they have no casino, the do enforce the all adult area and they have an awesome private island. However, I love Carnival and Royal Caribbean. They offer us what our aging family needs and wants.

    Very well stated!

Disney is really a 'niche' cruise line; by that I mean normally it's for families with young children, usually up to the 'tween' ages. Teenagers are not as happy with Disney and are more drawn to all the amenities offered by such ships as the Freedom of the Seas. After all, that's a very tough ship to beat when it comes to the amenities. The Voyager-class and the Freedom-class ships of Royal Caribbean are in a class by themselves when it comes to family-style cruising.

You've really captured the feeling as to why people are drawn to certain cruise lines based on what they want and their specific demographics.

AQs with any business.. you put the price out there if it doesnt sell you lower the price...
I hear what you're saying and agree to some degree. When sells are low, prices will come down. That's the old supply and demand.

However, quality does demand a higher price simply because it is often better. For example; would you expect a Cadillac Seville to sell for the same price as a Dodge Neon? Of course not. That's not just charging what they can because they can. They charge that because it costs them more to make the car.

Crystal Cruise Line should never be compared to Carnival - two entirely different quality of cruises. One is 5-star and the other is 1-star. Should they charge the same rate?

Disney is also better quality than Carnival. Two entirely different types of cruises.

Should Disney charge double what Carnival charges? Probably not. But then again, the real question should be; should we pay double?

As with anything in life, if you want it, you'll pay the price they're asking. But it doesn't stop the rest of us from bidding on eBay to get it cheaper.

I can buy an Angus NY steak at my local supermarket for $9.95 a pound. Is that same steak worth $45.95 at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse? Somebody must think so or they wouldn't be in business for so long.

I'm not saying Disney is worth it, I'm simply saying that they do offer a better product than some others and that will demand a better price. I guess that's really left up to the buyer to determine whether it's worth it or not.
