High cost of a Disney cruise

When many cruisers mention why they haven't been on a Disney cruise, the main reason seems to be the price. The main selling point, as some people see it, seems to be the Disney eclat or name. What is it that makes the Disney cruise worthwhile to be worth the price, besides meeting Mickey?

As with everything - you get what you pay for! And with Disney you get exactly what you pay for - exceptional service, and outstanding quality of staff, food, entertainment and accommodations.

We sailed Carnival this year and never again - it was just not in the same class as Disney at all.

If you want to be treated like royalty, sail Disney - they really cater to there customer.

Difference in price also?

Chasbos,

What was the difference in the price between Disney & Carnival?

I don't cruise Carnival, but I know that I can take two (2) Royal Caribbean cruises for the price of one Disney of the same length and cabin class.

I would expect a better experience for that kind of $$.

When we sailed Disney we paid $3400 for 2 connecting staterooms for a 4 day cruise in a Cat 9 room (Disney goes from 1 being the most $ to 12 being the least $) which just gave us a large porthole window on the 2nd deck.

We are a family of 6 so that would be 3 people in a stateroom for $1700.

Now DH and I sailed the Inspiration on a 5 day and although we upgraded to a suite, our original booking was for a similar room to the one we had on Disney and we would have only paid $1000.

Now our Suite only cost us $1800 for the two us on Carnival. But I would never do it again. The Suite on Carnival was smaller than our Cat 9 room on Disney.

And well, Carnival was just not for us - too much drinking, gambling etc.

Now Disney does have adults only sections of the ship(restaurants, pools, bars), so you can get away from kids for awhile.

Disney is more expensive but they do offer you things other cruiselines do not. One the fact you get free sodas is wonderful and really adds up. The Disney factor is important to remember too. They also have exceptional food.

With that being said we have stopped going on disney and I do not see us going again anytime soon. Not sure if I care to go again. We love RCI as well. While it does not offer the same things Disney does we have just outgrown DCL. Even my children chose RCI now over DCL.

Why is it you pay an arm and a leg to walk around on hard croncrete in the hot sun amongst crowds and wait iin long lines to do anything at all at Disney World?
Because people are eager to pay an arm and a leg to endure all that, that's why!

Everything that everyone said is very true and I could not add much more than to say there are no casinos on Disney ships. That's alot of revenue they don't get that other cruise lines do, so they have to make that up somehow - and higher prices account for some of it. Because the cabins are bigger, there are also a few less cabins. Then, as everyone has said, they are a step above the others, especially for the kids. The Disney kids' program is hard to beat. And their private island is wonderful.

It truly is that you get what you pay for when it comes to Disney.

But with that said, while Disney is top notch and something you should do at least once, there are other very nice ships out there with some amazing amenities with better deals.

The family did a Disney cruise and the wife and I did a Carnival. Both were wonderful. But with Disney, it is the Magic of it all.
The ship looked like it had never been sailed on before. The room was like brand new. The food was amazing and the crew was as friendly and attentive as I could have ever wanted. The offerings for entertainment was incredible.
You trully do get what you pay for.
