Unhappy Bad Knees

Ok Last April I blew out my knee again. Been to the Doctor & we are using meds to treat the problem. I have had 5 knee operations 4 major re-constructs.. I now need a new knee but they want to wait till I am closer to 50. I am 42 now.
Any how question is who has bad knees and is there anything you recomend to make the cruise easyer. I am planning to avoid the stairs and take elevators everywhere I can. What about muster drill. I hate the mass people in the stairwells. It was bad enough before for me but now I dread it. Elevators don't work right after or before the drill. What about Tenders I figure I can handle that one enough guys around to give a hand.
Any other ideas for bad knees besides stay at the bar....lol

I've got bad knees too. I feel a pinching everytime I use stairs. Sometimes going up is better than going down. Let you cabin steward know stairs are not an option for you and you can gain access to the elavator for the Muster Drill. We did this for my Granddad on our Alaska cruise in 2003. Had no problems during the drill. For me tho I'll do the stairs for the drill only or if I feel like it anytime else. I know it is probibly bad for my knees but oh well.
As for tenders I've had no problem at all. I just try and be extra carefull.

Chuck, get a doctors note stating your problem, Give it at checkin, And see if there is a place for it on the on line checkin, and if it goes out on you you can get a wheelchair if needed, Just avoid stairs, and the tender should be no problem, unless you try to get on at a peak time, you will be in long lines, We go into port late morning and after lunch, get right on.

My Signature Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Oh Great Ideas Guys Thanks!
I do have my handicaped placard do you think that will work? I will check with my TA & the lines. Some days are better than others. Today is great but if rain is coming oh can it hurt. Some days I use a cane just depends. I hate to do the wheelchair thing. I have done that in the grocery store & then 2 days later knees feel better & people just don't understand & think you are a faker looking for sympathy......arrrrrrrr frustrating at times.

You Know Chuck in thinking on it. Why not talk to the doc about doing the surgery now? Why suffer for 8 years when you dont' have to? Surgery's are getting less evasive now anyway. And by the time it has more problems there will me a lot more advancements. Just a thought.

If you come on with a cane they will usually be a lot more sympathetic. I have traveled with handicapped persons before.

I feel your pain..I also have bad knees and am "chicken" to have the surgery. I know so many people that have had it go bad. I have taken the Supartez shots which seem to help. However, I never travel without my rollator, which is a folding walker with a seat. I can keep a good bit of the weight off my knees that way and when I have to stand in line I have a place to sit. Check out Egan Medical on Ebay, I got a great buy on one there, cheaper than at the medical supply stores.

Since your muster station is probably posted on your door, why not go there early? After you are unpacked, pour your favorite libation, get your life vest, and head over to the muster station? When you and your family are the first ones there, grab chairs and chill. When the muster masters show, explain your condition, and then they will remember you in case of a problem. After the drill, send the kids back with your wife, (and your vest with one of the kids) and wait until the crowd has died down before you venture back to your cabin.

The elevators do work at least on Hal. We were coming down the steps and the girl posted at the elevators noticed how difficult it was for 1 person in our party and she called him over to take the elevator.

Tenders were a problem. We avoided taking cruises that required them. They will help you on and off but if there is any rocking and rolling it gets scarey. It is too easy to fall.
