Question Is it RUDE to take a drink from the bar with you into the Dining Room?

Do you feel it's rude to take a drink from the bar with you into the dinining room for dinner on a cruise ship?

We were seated with some in the MDR for lunch who were saying they found it very rude for people to do this.

Naturally, I sort of kicked my DH so he would NOT comment because we almost always do. Certainly doesn't mean we won't order more wine at the table.

What are your feeling on this?

I don't think it is rude at all. Regardless of where you get it you are still spending money and that is what the cruiseline is hoping for
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

I did it every night, and I don't think it's rude.

I have found that bar service in the MDR can vary quite a bit.
Even when that is not a factor, I do not see anything wrong with bringing a drink with you as long as it is not something you brought onboard.

As Joey says, wait staff will carry it for you, in fact on the (very) odd occasion we go to a posh restaurant they take you drinks through for you. As for rude, I don't see why, you may have just got a drink when your table is called (not fixed seating I realise).

Any time you go to restaurant before your table is ready, posh or otherwise, they WANT you to order a drink. And they are happy to have you drink it at the bar, or at your table. If you are drinking, you are less likely to be need your waiter as quickly right after you are seated.

If that's true at the local seafood restaurant, it's certain true in any dining room on a ship.

I suspect the person who thought bringing drinks to the MDR was rude either doesn't frequent restaurants often or just wanted to start a fight. Glad you didn't take the bait, Lulu.

I would have no problem looking those people straight in the eye and saying with the sweetest voice I could muster up...that they are certainly entitled to their opinion but I don't happen to agree.

Of course in my mind I would be thinking to myself "Who do you think you are, the @#%! RUDENESS police?"

Of course it's not rude. The nicest restaurants all around the world will always offer to carry your drink over to your table for you, if you have been waiting at the bar. It's expected and perfectly normal even in high society.

I think sometimes people make up stuff to get upset about!

Got to agree with everyone else on this one. It is perfectly okay to take your drink from the bar into the restaurant if they are part of the same establishment.
