If open on a port day, do you remember what was different about that day?
I remember it because I had to double check my daily to make sure because I didn't think it would be because it had not been on other port days. We slept late and waited to get off the ship until after lunch to walk around for a bit in town. We'd planned to do the buffet ... but since the MDR was open, that's where we had lunch.

The MDR lunch was normal ... just like any other at sea day. Actually, lots of pax were having lunch there. The only thing different was maybe it wasn't a very popular port and lots normally stayed on the ship. Trying to remember where in the Caribbean ... someplace without good beaches and snorkeling ... or we would have at least planned to go to a beach.

On our last NCL cruise we remembered that the Grand Pacific Main Dining room had been open on embarkation day the last time we sailed. We boarded around 12.30 and headed staight there as we'd been on an early morning flight from the UK so had left home at 3.30am. It was quiet but a haven of tranquility compared to the buffet where everyone else was heading!
A very civilised and enjoyable lunch was followed by a by a much needed siesta in the Spinnaker lounge which has a range of day beds and was deserted. When we awoke our cabin was ready and bags delivered!

Embarkation with RCI is later than NCL so I don't suppose that opportunity will present itself.
