Unhappy $80 Per Bottle??? Are You Mad????

We are flabergasted at $80.00 per standard bottle (we are guessing quart) of liquor charged by Celebrity in order to have alcohol in our room. Is this for real??? Can you not bring a bottle to your room without being searched? It is our 26th anniversary and we were going to bring booze and bottle of Don P that someone gave us. Now we find out that we can only purchase on ship and there is a corking fee of $25.00 for the Don P. Can anyone give us an insight on this. We are not drunks, just looking forward to that celebritory evening cocktail toast.......thanks.

This is from the Celebrity Alcohol Policy on their web site:

Guests are not allowed to bring beer or hard liquor onboard for consumption or any other use.

Guests wishing to bring personal wine onboard with them at the beginning of the cruise may do so, limited to two (2) bottles per stateroom, but when consumed in any shipboard restaurant, bar, or dining venue, each bottle shall be subject to a corkage fee of $25.00.

Alcoholic beverages that are purchased in ports of calls or from the onboard shops will be stored by the ship and delivered to guest's staterooms on the last day of the sailing.

Security may inspect containers (water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, luggage etc.) and will dispose of containers holding alcohol. Celebrity Cruises’ Guest Conduct Policy may be enforced, up to and including disembarkation, if a guest violates any alcohol policy. Guests under the age of twentyone (21) will not have alcohol returned to them.

You may consume your Dom P in your cabin without incurring a corkage fee. It's more romantic on your own balcony, anyway. Your cabin attendent will be happy to get you champagne flutes.

Many of the cruise lines are enforcing stricter alcohol policies since there have been so many alcohol related injuries and deaths. Part of it is a liability issue and part of it is revenue generating.

I certainly understand the need for revenue. But $80.00 per bottle is, excuse me, going overboard!

At $80 per bottle, please don't throw it overboard

I agree with you, but I believe that most lines are doing the same thing.

I agree! The markup is quite a bit from what we pay at our local liquor store. Some folks try to pack it in their suitcases to sneak on. Sometimes they succeed and sometimes they don't. Sometimes the bottle gets broken or leaks. Sometimes they are summoned to the "naughty room" to open their bag and have the bottle(s) confiscated.

If you try to pack it, the best way is to wrap it in bubble wrap and surround that with a disposable diaper then put it in a large zip lock bag and pack it in the center of your suitcase. If it leaks or gets broken, the diaper will absorb the liquid.

Nah, not worth being sneaky - we look guilty - I worked too long for a circuit court judge and the lie would drive me crazy - won't spill a lick though!!....we are going to pre-order for the room and leave the champ at home for another time. Thanks for your help.

Have another question, since you are go good at this....I have to give myself a shot once a week...keep med cold. Will meds be safe in room fridge?

$80 a bottle is not bad when you consider what you pay for drinks in a bar.

An average shot is 1.5 ounces, according to a bartender friend of mine, and there are 32 ounces in quart, so that's about 21 shots a bottle. At $5 a shot, that's $105, plus all the free cigarette smoke you can inhale!!

It's all on how you look at it.

I agree with Char; enjoy your Dom Perignon on your balcony - it's much more romantic!! And just remember, what happens on the balcony in the dark, stays on the balcony in the dark. Champagne adds to the enjoyment.

    Enjoy your anniversary!!

On Celebrity, as of October 1, you are only alowed to smoke in one lounge or bar, port side on the pool deck and at the Mast or top bar.
