Tell me all about Copenhagen!

Since Copenhagen will either be a port of embarkation.disembarkation for me, or a port city on my cruise...

Please tell me all about Copenhagen. What you did while you were there. What there is to do there in general. I pretty much only know about Tivoli Gardens, and even then I don't know much about it. I know there is the Little Mermaid statue as well, but what else?

What is there to buy there? Is shopping good?

Is the city expensive? Any good places to eat? Any other not to be missed attractions?

Thanks in advance!

Copenhagen. It was VERY expensive. We didn't get to do alot there. For two reasons. The Jewel of the Seas had taken the prime berth at the port (the one that is within walking distance to most things) and it left us to shuttle into a part of the city that I think was just too - "eh." We didn't get to see the Little Mermaid (although I heard the crowds there were thick.)

After our very bad excursion, we walked along the Stroget district - and if you have ever walked through a nice shopping district, then you've done it.

Do this city ON YOUR OWN. Check our Tivoli. It was only $10 to enter (as long as you don't want to ride any rides) and it's a nice stroll through a beautifully landscaped amusement park. Again, food is expensive. I was able to find a souvenir rack with a sale, so a t-shirt was pretty cheap.

We ate hot dogs there, relatively inexpensive and they tasted really, really good. The lights at night were worth it to me!

Terry,

thanks for the heads up on it being expensive. this is going to be our port of embarkation/debarkation. I'm not looking forward to finding a hotel.

I guess being a Disney lover, I gotta check out Tivoli then!

I agree with Terry...we did Copenhagen on our own. We did the Copenhagen Walk with "Hans Christian Andersen" (aka Richard) and then went to a pastry shop that he recommended for lunch. From there, we went into the National Museum, which was fascinating. Then we walked the Stroget and went shopping!

We took the shuttle back and walked over to see the Lil Mermaid. I was exhausted by that point, so we walked back to the shops by the ship, where I could claim my VAT tax and got on board. There was only about another hour or so before the ship was going to disembark...

I wish we could've stayed longer as there were more things we would've liked to see, but cé la vie!!!

We just got back from our Baltic cruise. We got to Copenhagen a day early to see what we could. We didn't arrive until after 1 pm so were disappointed we couldn't take a tour that day. We stayed at the Raddison SAS and were about 6-8 long blocks or so from Tivoli and the old town square. We walked and walked all over. Not interested in amusement parks but walked around Tivoli and peaked through the fences. From there we walked around the square, got a pic with HC Anderson statue, enjoyed the architecture of all the old buildings, walked down the narrow cobblestone streets and into many of the shops along the way. Walked all afternoon and early evening as we wanted to stay awake and then go to bed at their normal time. None of us had any problems getting to sleep!

I was looking for a little bite to eat at the hotel, ended up with a pasta dish that cost $35 with tip, ouch! The next morning walked across the parking lot to a gas station that was like our SA's and Holiday's here with beverages, deli, etc. Ended up with the BEST Danish I have ever had. Wish I had known about that the night before,

We were able to get a Princess tour before boarding our ship. Highlight was Christianborg Palace, beautiful. Drove through parts of the city, walked around the courtyard of the residence of the Royal family, saw several interesting things, then went to visit the Little Mermaid. Wasn't real crowded there so was able to get some good pics. Loved Copenhagen and wouldn't mind going back someday.

A bit about the tour: Copenhagen and Christiansborg Palace. A Princess tour we booked at the hotel to do before boarding. A narated bus tour lasting about 4 hours, think it was about $60 and a very good overview. We had a full tour of the palace, passed Tivoli Garden, the old town Old City Hall Square, (where we had been the day before on our own), stopped for photos at the Little Mermaid, got out in the square of Amalienboug Palace, a square sorrounded by 4 Rococo buildings where the royal family lives. It was a good tour.
