Question Dawn Princess?

I am looking at an Alaskan cruise on the Dawn Princess in May 2006. Can anyone tell me anything about this ship?

We were on the Dawn, and it was fine, but not my favorite. We enjoy having an enclosed pool area and there was not on the Dawn. She is an older ship--we had a balcony cabin, which was fine, but small. I broke my leg while on the Dawn, and the medical care was wonderful. The wheelchair accessibility is great too, (as long as you can push your wheelchair past the crowds of people who want to ride the elevator up one floor--I had never been on an elevator on a cruise ship until this happened). Our weather got really cold, and there was nowhere to go (especially since there was a large group of some kind of convention on board who took up the lounges for their sales rah rahs). The golf putting tournament was done in the lobby next to the purser's desk. No movies cause of the rah rah group. BUT....we had a good time. Would not book this particular ship again because of the lack of a covered pool or jacuzzi option, but that is us!! The staff was great, food great...I think we need specific questions to know what you are concerned about.....

My Signature Upcoming cruises:
Sapphire Princess 3/20/2010 7 day Mexican Riviera
Avalon Tranquility 10/22/2010 Budapest to Prague, first river cruise

Dobie - you'll have to tell me about the broken leg when we meet. I sailed the Dawn a few years ago. Balcony cabin on Caribe. Small balcony, totally covered, no view unless you peer over the rail, or stand. The pool areas were totally open. Lots of cupboard and storage space in cabin but typical Princess bathroom. Miniscule shower.

Public rooms were nice, good theatre for movies or shows but not large enough . Horizon Court (buffet) could be crazy at busy times but otherwise pleasant.

We were on this ship in a Junior Suite. The suite was great, seperate living area and a great bathroon with Jacuzzi tub. The ship is large enough to enjoy a variety of activities and areas, while at the same time, small enough to find your way around comfortably.

I can't comment on the food or service...we were on a 3 day sampler and I believe the service was not up to the Princess Standards I have read on these boards.

My Signature I used to be number 1 in frubals.....now I'm nothing

We were on the Dawn Princess in MArch of this year. Had a fantastic time. Yes, she is older, but she is still a beauty. The staterooms are a little smaller and the balcony is small. Would I sail on her again, yes, all my friends have rebooked for the Mexican Riveria in MArch 2006, that's how much they liked it.

Talking

I was on this ship with Cammie last March and am part of the group that re-booked for next March.

As said a bit smaller and older but comfortable cause you learn your waya round esily. We did PC dining never waited more then 10 minutes..you wait longer then that at a lot of resturants at home. We had two big groups eating at diffrent times, we always reservted tables witht he same waiters and never had a problem. Shows and theaters do fill up quickly but we found seats.

Jammer was fun did lots of shoots there. We had a blast on Princess cays.

Enjoy your cruise...

Smile Dawn Princess

Have spent a TOTAL of 6 weeks on Dawn Princess and love that ship!

Especially like the lay out of the pool deck with the bandstand next to the pool bar. Fun and easy place to mix and mingle.

Rather liked the covered balcony -- very private!

Look forward to a great trip on Dawn. Best, LuLu
