The new Queen Elizabeth

Not much is known yet about the new Queen Elizabeth, but here is what I know:

She will look something like this

6187=

She had a job number 6187

She will be a sister ship to Queen Victoria and look a lot like her from the outside, but so far no news about the inside.

She is due to enter service in October 2010

I have heard she may have single cabins, although this is just talk, so my turn out not to be true.

I will post more as soon as I know anything.

Thanks Stephen, how exciting. I'll be curious to know what, if anything, is different than the Queen Victoria

My Signature Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

I received my copy of the Cunarder today and the latest news on Queen Elizabeth is that cruises go on sale in the first half of 2009. Not long to wait now.

I got this email from Cunard today

We are delighted to bring you this update on the construction of our newest Cunarder, Queen Elizabeth, currently being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

Fincantieri, who also built Queen Victoria who joined the fleet in 2007, have a total of 600 employees dedicated to the construction of the first sections of the hull. Senior representatives from Cunard are closely monitoring every step of the production process to ensure that everything runs according to plan.
The steel plates required to complete the construction of her hull have all been commissioned and these weigh a total of 18,000 tonnes. On 18 September 2008 the very first steel plate was cut and this was recognised with a dedicated ceremony.

To date 12 main sections have been constructed. The keel laying section, which is the first section to be laid in the dry dock, has already been built and it is anticipated that the keel laying will be in June 2009 and in keeping with tradition will be marked with a special ceremony.
