Question Will you book QM2 after 'Mutiny on the Mary'

I have read the media reports about cruisers who feel they were deceived by Cunard in Ft. Lauderdale and where not notified of the fact all ports were canceled until after they left Ft. Lauderdale.

Should Cunard have continued to sail around the Horn under 3 engines knowing that undoubtedly ports will be missed?? Would it have been better for them to immediately cancel the trip and order her into drydock????

I really feel for the 1000 people who were going just between NY and Rio.....they stopped at one port...Ft. Lauderdale....which was an reportedly an unscheduled port according to some on the QM2.

Funny, I just today recieved an offer in the mail fron Cunard, if I booked QM2 by March, they would give me a $200.00 shipboard credit! I dont think I will be using it, not because of this but its too expensive for me

We would sail the QE2 anyday with the price being right, nearly booked last year but TA spent ages trying to get through, but computers were down and no one answered the phone so we booked another option. But would not sail QM2 as my husband has always had uncomfortable vibes re this ship even before it was launched.

Unfortunately the QM2 is a jinxed ship, superstition or not, any ship that caused or was the site of loss of life before its launch is classed as jinxed by seafarers, this has been the case for centuries.

Would I sail on her?...No. She is too big for the market that she was aimed at and she doesn't sail well, having seen her many many times going in and out of Southampton docks, she looks top heavy and thus she showed her instabilities more than once on rough days when leaving the port.

Carnival Corp have, however, realised they made a mistake with this ship cos the next one, Queen Victoria is significantly smaller and more in line with the QE2 in design and style influences. Over here in the UK you can get a decent cabin on QM2 on a transatlantic for under £1000, which is silly money. My opinion of the ship is that she will soon become a big white elephant, she isn't popular for a multitude of reasons and I doubt she will ever pay for herself.

I hope RCI have been watching the problems that Carnival have had with the QM2 and that they can avoid repeating those same problems with their big ship, Freedom.

One thing I have noticed though, since the announcement about Freedom was made and the world has seen the problems that QM2 has had over the last two years.....all newbuilds either under construction or on order are all around 116000 or less. Perhaps the industry has learnt a lesson that bigger ships than your competitor doesn't always bring in the money.

    Thanks for your replies.

I wonder if she is just too large for the kind of clientele she is targeted for. We were in dock with her in Barbados this last November and we noticed that the lighted sign that said QM2 was already malfunctioning....thought that was unusual for a ship of that age!!

We'd probably not cruise her because of her size and class system. It feels a bit too formal for this ole hippy from California!!

If I were on the ship, I would have greatfully accepted their generous offering.

If and when I sail on the Mary 2, my destination will be the ship, not the stops.

I would even fly transatlantic to sail her one way. That has no stops either.

When I wish to visit ant of these ports, I will go there directly. They all looks the same after a while anyway.

    Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum, sailing on QM2 on the same cruise as KJ on Feb 22 out of Los Angeles. All I can say is that I would love to spend any time on those ships and to be on an adventure where you don't know what might happen just sounds like good fun to me. How could you feel trapped on a ship that large?
Anyhow to answer the question, none of this makes me not want to sail with Cunard. I haven't seen QM2 in person yet, but if she is anything like her gracious sister, I am in for a real treat. There is something special about an ocean liner!

    Amy-

We saw her docked across from us in Barbados....she is a very beautiful ship. She is very much a ship, not resembleing the ocean going apartment compelxes that sail the seas these days. I am sure you will love her and that the propeller problems will be remedied soon.

P.S. I tried to attach a photo but it was way too big size wise and I am not savvy enuf to know how to reduce it.......

Rubbish, QM2 had nothing to do with the loss of life prior to receiving the ship from the builders. The builders of the ship were responsible for allowing substandard scaffolding to be built to support the hundreds of people coming on to view the ship.

True that QM2 has Princess and Queen classes, but unlike the QE2 all passengers are allowed in all areas except for their restaurants. I MUCH preferred the beautiful Brittania restaurant as opposed to the small Q & P restaurants.

I am booked for my 2nd voyage on this beautiful ship. I thought my 1st voyage was a once in a lifetime experience, however they made us a deal we couldn't refuse...7 days for $750 plus $500 on board credit for being a previous passenger. This is my favorite ship out of 32 cruises.
Friends around the world, isnt the web great!

Regent Navigator 11/15/07 (I won it)
