To show just how shallow it is, scroll down on this site and you will see the Brambles Bank cricket game, held once a year...

So, she lists when making a ninety degree turn. Of course she does. But so what?Originally Posted by PagodaSwan

Once again, I have never heard such criticisms from her passengers, of which I know many, who have sailed her into or out of Southampton. Nobody seems to be concerned that she "does not handle turns well at all"
I have sailed into and out of Southampton plenty of times, and that turn is always quite noticeable.
Most ships look top heavy when viewed from any distance.
That doesn't mean that they are are uncomfortable to sail on.
There is an infamous incident in which the original Queen Elizabeth was run aground by the pilot at that very spot.
And there she sat, for four days, full of passengers, before she could be dragged off by a fleet of tugs.
I guess you'll continue to denounce QM2 while I continue to defend her...![]()

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
And I can't wait to take them!Originally Posted by sue miller

Here's the latest news from the cruise industry...
On January 17, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 called in Fort Lauderdale en route from New York to Rio de Janeiro. Leaving the port, the largest cruise ship ever built struck a sea wall in the ship channel, damaging one of the ship's four propulsion pods. After inspections that delayed departure for nearly two days, the QM2 departed Fort Lauderdale at a slightly reduced speed, and guests were informed that all three port calls between Fort Lauderdale and Rio would be cancelled.
Cunard offered guests a 50% refund of the fare they had paid, reasoning that guests would still enjoy fine dining, entertainment, lodging and transportation. Many passengers felt the offer was not sufficient, and a prolonged protest ensued. Eventually, a high-ranking official from Cunard flew to Rio to meet the ship, apologize to passengers and offer guests a full refund for their cruise fare between Fort Lauderdale and Rio. The ship continued on its voyage around the southern tip of South America.
The QM2 is a very fast ship, and even with only three of four pods operational, Cunard reports she is still faster than most cruise ships sailing today. Cunard is planning a dry dock from May 5 through May 10 to remove the damaged propulsion pod, and a second dry dock from November 11 through November 17 to install a new pod. Sailings scheduled to depart April 29, May 5, November 11, and November 18 have been cancelled, and new cruises will operate on May 11 and November 18. Before and between the dry docks, Cunard anticipates only minor itinerary adjustments will be necessary.
