Cunard Line Presents Intriguing 2011 Insights Programme

Politicians, entertainers, best-selling authors, a CNN correspondent turned novelist, and a revered astronaut are among the eclectic variety of speakers in award-winning guest enrichment programme

12 May 2011 - With a luxury cruise vacation aboard Cunard Line, not only can guests experience The New Golden Age of Ocean Travel, they may also pique their intellectual curiosity through a variety of special presentations offered by Cunard Insights. The award-winning guest enrichment programme continues in 2011 aboard the youngest fleet at sea, where guests are able to learn more about politics, entertainment, literature, science and history through renowned speakers from these and other world disciplines. Featured Insights speakers range from former vice president and editor-in-chief of Daily Variety Peter Bart, legendary British crime novelists P.D. James and Baroness Ruth Rendell CBE; to The Byrds musician Roger McGuinn and debut novelist Kitty Pilgrim, a former CNN correspondent turned novelist who features Cunard's Queen Victoria in her debut thriller.

"A highlight of any Cunard voyage is our Insights programme, providing guests with dynamic enrichment opportunities to engage their minds and passions, while enjoying the timeless experience of sailing aboard our liners," said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line. "This year's speaker line-up certainly will appeal to a broad range of interests, giving guests a chance to update on favourite subjects as well as learn about something new."

I'll be aboard on the 10th of June and will go to see Dr. Ruth - just to see what she is really like.
John Maxtone-Graham is also aboard and that is one person I will absolutely go to see since I own 4 of his books.

I am sure John Maxtone-Graham is very interesting to listen to. He was on QM2 when I was on but did not give a speach as we did not have any sea days. However, he did give broadcast over the PA system as we were leaving Southampton.

Isn't it great when a cruise line has speakers who are both intelligent and articulate? Our speaker on the Noordam was an "expert" on marine biology. Sure. If she had even read one book on the subject I would have been surprised.

Not always. A few years ago on a Caribbean voyage on the QM2 we had a lady who was lecturing about local flora and fauna. She was big on fruits. I'm sure she was absolutely brilliant in her field and held a PhD. But we referred to her as the fruit and nut lady. I only attended one lecture and couldn't sit through anymore.

But if the ship had gone down and you were stranded on a tropical island, you would have known what to eat and what not to have eaten.

Our gal spent 5 minutes talking about Flipper......
