Cunard's new ship Queen Elizabeth is due to be floated out today![]()
Hopefully, I will find some pictures of the events, if I do, I will post them here.

I've been out of the loop. What's the history of this ship?

Cunard are building a new ship to be called Queen Elizabeth to replace QE2.
She will be very much like Queen Victoria, but with a few more cabins and an art deco feel.

Interesting. I wonder why not QE3. Some of us remember the QE, and her horrific demise.

WOW! A quick scan of the deck plans reminds me ALOT of Carnivals Spirit class vessel. Is that what the QV is like as well?

Cunard do not usually use numbers. QE2 should have been called Queen Elizabeth, but when HM The Queen named her, she called her Queen Elizabeth the second, so they had to change the name. As HM Queen Elizabeth II is only HM Queen Elizabeth the first in Scotland (where QE2 was built) Cunard said the ship was so named as the second ship of that name an not named after HM The Queen.
So QM2 is named after the Mary of that zany pair of William and Mary?

QM2 is named after the ship RMS Queen Mary who was named after the wife of HM George V. But there is a story there. The story goes that Cunard wanted to name their new ship Queen Victoria, and the Chairman when to see HM George V to ask if that was ok. He said to HM the King, Cunard would like to name their ship after Britains greatest Queen. To which HM George V, replied "the wife will be delighted". Of course this story could be totally made up.![]()
