Talking Plan to Put the QM Back into service but it seems to be too good to be true

According to this website The Queen's Project .::. History is Waiting ... this organization wants to buy the Queen Mary from the City of Long Beach,California and renovate her to make her seaworthy again.In my honest opinion it seems to be too good to be true.Because back in 1967 when Cunard sold the Queen Mary to the City of Long Beach there is a clause in the contract that prohibits the City of Long Beach from sailing the Queen Mary back out to sea carrying fare paying passengers.The website claims that it will cost about $1.5 Billion to renovate the Queen Mary and that it will take about 48 months to complete the renovations.For $1.5 Billion why not build a new full sized replica of the Queen Mary? Then they are even asking visitors to the website to donate money.Are they kidding me? I would not even donate a penny to this charade.And then there are trademarks on the name Queen Mary which are probably owned by Cunard/Carnival Corp. anyway.Any comments about this charade? Regards,Jerry

I thought that the ship, er, hotel was a going concern and making money. Not sure why Long Beach would sell it.

Anyway, I think I agree with you, it would be almost if not actually cheaper to build a full size replica than it would be to restore the QM to a seaworthy condition.

Also, with the new regulations many older existing ships are being pulled from service. If it is going to be that expensive to fix up these ships, what would it be like to do the QM?

I am troubled that there are no names of human beings anywhere on the site. There are e-mail addresses and phone number, and a reference to the FTC, which give it a glaze of legitimacy.

Sides Enterprises is mentioned on the Privacy Policy page. This company has a page where it lists this project along with 3 other projects that it has on its plate.
Sides Enterprises .::. Welcome

This is not enough info for me to comfortable to make an investment in any of these projects.

I think there is more chance of Titanic arriving in New York than there is of seeing Queen Mary at sea again.

There is no way she would get past the SOLAS (Safety Of Lives At Sea) regulations as they are now, let alone the revised ones that come in next year.

If they want a ship, there is a very nice one sitting in Dubai which would need a lot less work

For $1.5 billion they could build another ship like Queen Mary 2.

Stephen and Neal, This questionable organization if it has any credibility should be more interested in buying both the QE2 and the S.S.United States and forget about the Queen Mary. Regards,Jerry
