Black & White night on QE2

I can't believe that I am asking this question, having been on QE2 twice but not actually attended the B&W ball (last time it was on I wore turquoise due to a laundry issue), and at least it is cruising related

I went shopping for my new black dress today - sort of got one - it IS black - but it has embroidered flowers all over in purple & green - is that breaking the spirit of things ? (I question because on the P+O board on CC people who wore non-black/white were accused of showing off! (admittedly it is a B&W night, not a B&W ball on P+O)

I also saw a rather nice dress, which was red with a black gauzey over dress, so the overall effect is dark maroon - I thought then I would ask - is it black, or not?

the dress I really wanted was mauve, with lts of beads, and lots of money - so I restrained myself and got a sort of black one for lots less money (which left the cash to buy a black & silver top to go with the skirt for one of the informal nights, )

Any P+Oers out there - you opinions will be useful for April (but then I can't go shopping for another black dress - this was the 2nd time - but getting closer - last time I came home with aforementioned turquoise one)

    Karen
(who is already questioning why I needed a new dress when this next cruise is SHORTER than the last and I didn't wear them all then!)

The advantage of being a man is I am usually in black and white on a formal night anyway. . From what I have seen in the Queens Room, your new dress will be just fine. .

Karen, do we care what they think on the P&O board?

Or not. More 'Dark side of Maroon'.....

Hi Karen, Face up to it. You like buying sparkly frocks! No harm in that even if they do cost loads of money and you never wear them or only wear them once. You're a woman. It's a thing women do. Better for your health to be a frocoholic. If it gives you pleasure, do it, enjoy and s** what the rest think. They all sound wonderful

Are you actually going to the black and white ball on QE2? Or are you planning on wearing it on P&O? Couldn't quite keep up. If I wasn't going to the ball, I would wear any colour. If I was would probably stick to black or white. But, sounds as if your dress is going to look black-ish in artificial dim lighting and will be fine.

The only other P&O afficionado on here is Dak (I think), and I happen to know that he's a bit of a fashionista and usually wears vibrant colours, heavily beaded, often cocktail length.

There, I've almost answered a fashion question. Funny old world.

I admit it. It's all true. However, I keep the braided ampits for special occasions only.

I wonder how many people will actually follow the guidance. I've been on QE2 when there have been themed balls but I've never noticed anyone who was studiously following the daily suggestion.

I've never even seen a suggestion for themed balls--but maybe they don't have them on TAs. On the World Cruise segment I'm on we're supposed to have a "Mexican Fiesta Ball" upon leaving Acapulco. Sounds like a perfect time to get my black-and-white stuff out of the closet... Suggestions? (and dare I ask?)

Oh, come on, we ALWAYS need that elusive 'perfect' dress!

Given Cunard's track record of changing the themes of balls after you've sailed, I'd say the black-and-white is the thing to pack. If they stick to the Mexican Fiesta Ball theme, go shopping in Acapulco. ::
